mrsgrumblebum
Hi my other half has a small chilli bush they are small red chillis the tag on the bush says hot..... Our problem is as soon as the bush has the red chillis on it she eats all the red ones off the bush and leaves all the small yellowy coloured ones on there then if we don't pick them she eats them too. Just wondering if they can harm her ........ kinda funny when her eyes and little nose runs but she just keeps on eatin . I am sure "it" whoever "it" is, does not associate the chillis with the eyes and nose watering, so put the plant where "it" can't reach it please? I don't think it is funny either. mrsgrumblebum
Thanks for your replies but the chilli bush was in a pot so now it is in avery lge pot where our pup cannot get at it. I am sorry I used the word funny as it is not funny it was a figure of speech I am sorry if you took offence to my miss used word but I just thought it very weird that she should keep doing this. Sorry it was a bad choice of word to use. If some how our pup manages to get at the bush again I will pull it out. Thanks for your replies I hope my problem has now been rectified. Doghouse
WHEN i had a herb garden, that went along with the award winning small, beautiful garden i had three very hot chilli plants which in the course of problem childs arrival all were carted around the back yard as trophys when dug up and defolitated. She ate one of the fruit ONCE and has never ever touched them again (did not stop her digging around them though)..
Akitaowner
im fairly sure my 2 would eat chillis if they had the opportunity - they love hot stuff - they can eat curries i can only just about eat (and i eat fairly hot curries!!) i wouldnt expect it to have any short term effects but i dont think the dog should be allowed access anyway, over time it may be more of a problem... sidoney
Chillies have historically been used for intestinal worms. And still are by many.
Tim Fairchild
Shrug. Our guys eat chillis all the time. They appear to have a taste for them and they do do appear to be adversely affected.
LittleMiss
Yes my GSD loves chillis - or any spicey food for that matter. I would have thought that if the chillis were burning your dogs' mouth and throat too much she wouldn't continue eating them... It doesn't hurt to be precautions, and definitely keep an eye on her to make sure she is still healthy. But I doubt it would cause too much of a problem. Having said that, anything in large doses can be bad for humans and pets alike.
