whatevah
Moses is going okay. He is back to normal but am very concerned about his weight. He has lost heaps and is very thin, will get him weighed tomorrow, but last time it was 17.5kg. He lost 200g when he was cooped up without exercise. Staff'n'Toller
What sort of food are you feeding? You might want to consider running a bloodscreen, and testing his thyroid- Tollers can have thyroid issues. Mel.
whatevah
He gets fed advance dried food, and a mixture of pasta, rice and beef. At night he gets another feed of dried food. I know of a Husky that has a thyroid condition and it actually is way over weight and lethargic. Moses still has plenty of energy.
Staffyluv
Did they do any pathology on the lump??? Loss of weight when they are not running around, should be checked out... Good luck Jodie
Flaves
Get blood testas done. Losing weight when still eating etc is bad. Hope all is ok.
Staff'n'Toller
It depends on whether they have high or low thyroid levels. High thyroid will cause a fast metabolism and blood pressure/heart rate so you may not notice if it is just marginal. I can remember you saying a while back that he was 20kg, so that is a noticeable loss. Mel.
Sayreovi
He lost 200g when he was cooped up without exercise. That is really worrying, i would be doing bloodtests ASAP. If anything dogs should gain weight when not exercised not lose it.
whatevah
Last night I noticed his collar hanging off him. I usually allow 3 fingers to put inside the collar, I recon I could have got a whole fist. Other then the weight loss he is very energetic as usual. They didn't do any tests on the lump they removed, it was an abscess due to a grass seed. The only other thing I can think of is as I don't train him as much as I used to he doesn't get as many treats. But I don't really think so. 2tollers
The last time I saw Moses he was pretty thin and if he's still losing weight I'd be concerned. I can't remember who Moses's dad is but one of David's dogs, Kitch, had a thyroid problem. It didn't show up until he was about 10. He lost most of his coat. Good Luck
Gamby
What a worrying time for you. You are both in my thoughts. Get a blod test done then you will be able to put your fears to rest. Wendy

Staffyluv
Sorry CTD but if they did not find a grass seed and they did no pathology on the contents - how can they know it was caused by a grass seed??? Lumps of any description worry me, especially when there has been no conclusive proof of what caused it... And now you have unexplained weight loss as well... Here is hoping he starts to put on weight again soon... Jodie
Staff'n'Toller
Sorry CTD but if they did not find a grass seed and they did no pathology on the contents - how can they know it was caused by a grass seed???Jodie It's a bit hard to do path on an abscess- it's a pocket full of puss. You can do a swab and they will tell you what kind of bacteria it is and the antibiotics it is sensitive to, that's about it. You can't do histopathology on an abscess, unless there was mass underneath the infection.
whatevah
StaffNToller were you on the train last night heading into the city? Thats what I thought, I didn't think you could test puss either.
Staff'n'Toller
Yep I was going in to the Comedy Festival I thought it was you. whatevah
Took Moses to the vet yesterday because he has lost 1/2 kg since he was last there which was about 5 weeks ago. The vet says just to feed him more. I insisted on blood tests and they came back normal. They are going to do a TSI test for pancreatic failure. I asked about thyroid and the vet says is very rare for a dog to be hyper which is when dogs thyroid is over active. Twotollers you said one of the Moses's breeder's dogs had a thryroid problem was it an overactive or underactive? Josh had a lump removed off this back which has been sent for testing as they don't know what it was.

whatevah
There hasn't been much of a change in the house, I first noticed this weight loss a couple of months ago.
