I really need to find somewhere good to go soon...as i now am able to get my puppy THIS friday night!! Only 3 more sleeps!! We're in the process of finding a better puppy preschool but it's difficult ;) Only 3 more sleeps how exciting!! Mim Posted March 13, 2007 Share Posted March 13, 2007 I went to Northern Suburbs and I have to say I didn't enjoy it at all. There is no shade during the classes and even though it's morning it can still get quite hot for you and your dog. I only met 2 nice trainers during the 6 months we attended. Some trainers just assumed they knew everything about some breeds like kitakins' example. The nastiest trainer enjoyed putting down a little girl (11 or 12) when she couldn't recall her dog, told her she was doing everything wrong and that she's too young to have a dog. Very harsh when you could see the girl was trying her best. Like kitakins I just used what I learnt and trained Sarge at home, he knows a range of tricks and is a very obedient dog. Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share Posted March 15, 2007 Ok...I have taken the plunge and am booking Mr Darcy into the Belmont Ave Vet clinic...apparently they are half way through classes at the moment, so he will start there in a couple of weeks! Its a 4 week course...will let you all know how it all goes! I pick him up tomorow night!!! How exciting...just one more sleep to go! I must madly go around and puppy-proof the house tonight! snarferama Posted March 21, 2007 Share Posted March 21, 2007 Well we ended up deciding to try out Northern Suburbs Training and Obedience puppy classes. I have to say I thought they were fab! There was one older lady who was a bit rude but otherwise everyone else was really lovely and our instructor is fantastic. We got lots of really good advice and it was so nice not having vet nurses trying to shove products down your throat. Mr Darcy has ended up going to Puppy Pre-school at the Belmont Ave Vet Clinic...its fairly close to home, runs for 4 weeks for an hour each time...his first class was last wed night...it was only a small group with 5 puppies in total in a small room...but first week was ok...he seemed to enjoy it and played with all the other puppies...he is certainly not scared of other dogs and wants to play. A few of others were more reserved puppies but i think in the next few weeks, they will come out of their shells and play too! hope so! :cool: It was Mr D's first time on a leash that night and also first car ride with me driving and him in a travel crate thing...he cried a bit in the car, but if i ignored his cries, he tended to quieten down...so hopefully he will get used to the car drives... rooster78 Posted April 19, 2007 Share Posted April 19, 2007 We ended up taking Bronson to the Huntingdale Vet classes. My partner took him for the first 3 sessions and I joined them for the last. The OH says it was great. Bronson was a bit of a leader - he made friends with a tiny jack russell but evidently he was a lot gentler with him than us as the jack didn't yelp once. If the dogs were agressive at all the leader put them in time out. She guided through puppy stages and helped with some basic commands as well as a weekly weigh-in, puppy play and a once over in the consult room. Jean26 Posted April 20, 2007 Share Posted April 20, 2007 Hi. I'm taking my pup to South Street Vet's puppy school. Its run by the vet nurses, so there isnt a LOT to do with basic training. I get training tips from my sister who as EXTREMLY well trained and obedient Rotties. I go there to socialise the pup, get some puppy advice and the staff are really friendly (which is very important to me). I've been doing some research for obedience training around my area (Spearwood) and the best one i could find was with the RSPCA. They're currently running 4 week "Level 1" obedience courses at $79.00 but will be changing that in June to a 6 week course for $99.00. They hold it in different areas but i cant remember... They have it listed on their website. Other than that there is the Southern River Dog Club of WA. They do Obedience and Agility training & trials. I'm pretty sure they do puppy obedience as well.
