You need to establish a routine, that is, the dog goes out at the following times: when waking, after meals, after play or exercise, and once every hour regardless. If you're not watching, of course the pup will likely make a mistake. You must watch - - - either have her leashed to your belt so you can't not watch her or - - - confine her to the crate (only enough room to stand up, turn around and lie down - - - or have her outside with you watching her and giving her the "toilet" commands you have chosen. Are you advocating that the dog spends 24/7 in the crate except when he is tied up (to the owner)? is outside having a toilet stop? Are you having trouble reading what I've posted? Locking my puppy up in a crate never worked for me. She was happy to pee in her bed too. The only tried , tested and true way to toilet train a pup, is hard work, diligence and patience. The only tried , tested and true way to toilet train a pup, is hard work, diligence and patience. it really depends, usually, the longer the amount of time u crate them, the more likely they gonna have it. And my experience tells me if u put a cushion inside, they tend to pee. If u remove it, they seems more tolerant and hold it there longer. Both my sammies are like that. Rottsaroundtheclock Posted March 10, 2007 Share Posted March 10, 2007 Noooo Help here. Just when I think I've managed to crate train my Little Miss she goes and does a nice BIG wee for me. And she could've done one only a second ago outside. What I have noted is this.... Any changes in the environment. ie...Someone new, or someone old returned....weeeeeeeeeee...... Wants to go out and play and has nicely trained H/mate to let her out to clean her crate.........weeeeeee....now that one was fun. (H/mate been retrained by me. Took about a week.) This same dog is actually clean in the house, unless someone has left a cushion or pillow on the floor. 5 hours unrestrained, unsupervised free running (she opens her crate if not locked in with chains!!!!) not a drop to be found.
