You know what that means Tiggy!

I'm sure there's a team here in Perth somewhere. I swear I've read it somewhere. Then again, I could be wrong.

I saw a demo done by the German Shepherd club at the Royal Show last year. I qould definately be interested in starting my dogs in Flyball.

There was a team/club called the K9 Flyers who use to have contact details on the CAWA website but not anymore. We'll have to start our own club :( . I hope someone knows what their doing.

I take that back. There's three listings in WA but two are in the country and Perth Dog Training is listed but they don't do it.

go to http://flyball.org.au/ and then go to 'about flyball' and then 'getting started' this also takes you to the link that RescueDogsRTheBest posted.

The biggest thing to get started is getting some equipment and a box is expensive. Perhaps see if you can loan it from the existing clubs until you get some fundraising done.

You only need 4 teams to hold a competition. Have to start somewhere!

Good Luck

Jo

If you approached some of the people at clubs that have equipment (like Perth), I'm pretty sure they would be open to letting you use the gear at class times (if you're members, of course).

Eg Perth have competition standard jumps, although their boxes are flat faced (old style)- still OK to use, I guess, especially if you start training without the ball, using the box as a turning board.

If you're interested, I have an fairly up to date competition style box (2 hole, curved front) I bought brand new a few years back when we had an active flyball club. Its going to waste in my backyard now, since my flyball dog died, but I'd be happy to bring it down to Perth training occasionally if you wanted to use it, Sandra.

Hey Sam,

I didn't know the Perth Training club did flyball!

Thanks for the info and offer.

Not sure whats happening yet. I might talk to my girls breeder and see if she knows anything about flyball at the German Shepherd club.

Thanks

Sandra

Flyball has never taken off in perth & the fact most obedience clubs dont teach/train this may be the reason.

I own aa fly ball box(old style) & trained the dogs way back then but it seemed when someone got its tarted some other person would get huffy & take over & then it would cease again.

I would approach you clubs & ask them,it is big in melbourne & i have a few friends with fly ball titled dogs

our club have some flyball gear, we don't use it but when I asked about flyball starting up again apparently the gear has been superceeded and we spend all our money on agility equipment. I will ask and get back to you asap. BTW was down at canine one evening a while ago and saw someone doing a spot of flyball. I will ask around to see who that was, they have to be registered with canine or affiliated club to be there.

it seems that the gear may have been in the trailer when it was stolen last year, but someone else thought we sold it. I am still fairly sure it is in the presidents garage :scold: will let you know soon as he is back from holidays

Starting your own club is not too hard Weiners is 12 months old very soon. Granted we all did flyball to start with so that made it easer.

Box and jumps are the most important part we got lucky and picked up a set of jumps and a box for $500. There were 5 in the club so it worked out ok.

Jumps are easy to make for any one a little handly the plans should be on the web site www.afa.org.au if not google it. A turning board could be used temperaly instead of a box. A few of our members live far away and train at home on a board. Plans can be got from the web.

Heaps of info about flyball training on the net and the DVD's that can be bought from the USA team Spring loaded are great!

I won't fill this thread with our history but if you want to know anything drop me an email.
