New Pup Meeting Older Pup

Hi there, We have just brought home our new pup (CKCS) and our 1 year old CKCS is not happy about it. They are both girls, but our 1 year old is so scared of the pup, i do socialise our 1 year old and we do obedience training once a week and she is great with the bigger dogs. But she wont let the pup near her and she runs away also she is drooling all the time, which she has only ever done when she stayed at the vets to be desexed. I think she is very anxious and i am worried about her. I would love any advice that can help her.

Think you just need to give your older dog time to adjust and don't leave them on their own together just yet. Also make sure you keep up lots of attention still to your older dog. Have introduced lots of puppies to our older dog and although not impressed for the first week or so, she always settles down and they become friends Just time.

Just make sure your not rewarding any fearful responses from your older dog. Be as confident as you possibly can so she can take cues from you. Pull out her favourite toy to play with when the puppy is around to try and get her into drive. Do some obedience that she finds fun and rewarding when the puppy is around but at a distance. Read up on leadership as well

When we got my newest pup, the oldest dog growled every time he saw the pup for about a week, and would immediately leave the room if the puppy came in. The other dog drooled non-stop for about 3 days. Like...drooled like I've never seen lol. He completed soaked a towel in only a few minutes. He was absolutely fascinated with the puppy however, and wouldn't leave her alone.

Both older dogs settled down after few days. I think everyone just needed time to adjust to the new routine.
