poodlefan
Roo: On a side note they say if you do absolutely nothing with your dog in regards to toilet training they get it at max 12 months. So you will def get it before then Sorry to disappoint you but this simply isn't true. There are plenty of dogs around that never get it because they learn that eliminating in the house is OK. It's a frequent complaint that "toy" breeds are hard to toilet train but personally I think it's more about owner tolerance/dedication than breed. My vet's view is that a dog that isn't toilet trained by about 5 months (this means a dog that has house access) is going to be very difficult to cure of the problem. Older dogs that haven't been house trained can be trained but need the same training as puppies. Erin having the door open won't help if your dog doesn't know to go outside. I would encourage him outside on his own four paws rather than carrying him - it helps build the message about taking himself out.
Akitaowner
when my 2 were babies i and i was home in the evenings watching TV i would set an alarm for every 20 minutes - the door was shut, they had access to the crate for snoozing but every 20 mins i would walk them outside - just encourage with treats and wait for them to go. Just curious as to what your night routine is? i was getting up twice in the night in the early days - pups can only hold for about 4 hrs. Is he being allowed to go in the house at night, or is he confined? Id suggest you check out crate training - it makes life a lot easier!!! and my 2 love their crates
