EmmaJ
Hi All New puppy seems to have no calming signals. I sneeze and yawn at her and when i do this she growls or barks. She has never rolled into a submissive position either. How can i get her to be submissive? are there any other calming signals that she may be showing but i am not picking up on? persephone
Hi...some more information may be helpful How old is your puppy? How long has she been with you? Have you practised your calming signs on other pups and had them work?

Kirty
She was probably taken away from her mother and sibling too young, and has not learnt proper doggy manners.
Staff'n'Toller
It depends in what situation you are using the calming signals - yes they are good, but us humans don't usually get them right in the context that the puppy would understand. Why are showing her calming signals anyway? Mel.
Nekhbet
why do you want your dog to roll into submissive position for you? If she was taken away early from the litter she may not understand them so is expressing her frustration. That or what you think is a calming signal the dog is taking as something else - remember your face is very different from a dogs.
Doghouse
Couple more questions: 1. What breed is she 2. Where did she come from 3. If she dosent live with you, who does she live with
EmmaJ
Bes is a mixed breed. I rescued her from being knocked on the head. She lives with my partner as im not allowed to have her here. As for using calming signals, i thought i would see what she would do and she didmt respond, hence my origional question. I am thinking that she had not learnt from her mother. Nekhbet
ah you see she did respond ... she barked at you. Maybe she doesnt understand the signals, or maybe she perceives them as initiating play/play fighting.

Kelpie-i
Sounds to me like your puppy just doesn't know what you're trying to do and is reacting by barking. Nothing menacing about that!
