ok remy is 10 months old,,( just) hes going though that im scared of anything that moves stage.(2nd fear imprint). plastic bags,, kids yelling hes scared of my 2 yo nefew anything,

the other thing that concerns me is him winging all night long in his crate...lol hes been crate traied from the day he got here 8 weeks old, has never had an issue or a bad experience in it now all of a sudden he hates it,, he winges and crys all night,, very distressing for us,, i hate to see him.or any dog that upset the kids cant sleep they keep asking can they let him out and take him to bed.. tried sitting with him giving him treats feeding him in there etc,, hes ok while im there,, then crys when im gone, gave him bones to ocuypy him he wouldnt touch them,,

the other night i let him out, crate is in laundry, but i closed the laundry door so he was still confined, he has water in there blankets toys ,, u name it. well he was happier and no crying till 3 am,, so he did well (3 hours). last night i did same and gave him a chew thing to go to bed with this morning when i got up he was in crate with door open,, cheeky little sod.. so what do i do,, do i keep it that way or do i close the door and put up with his winging that drives everyone maddddddd and it doesnt just go for an hour or so , he is persistant and will cry all night maybe 10min breaks in between

very frustrating when hs been so good untill now i know its probably just this fear imprint stafe and h will get over it,, but what can i do to make him more comfortable and happy in the mean time..

oops just realised i put this in puppy, should of maybe put in training...

Rexy, seems you have two Issues here. One the Dog being Fearful and the second the Whinging at night.

With the Whinging, he knows if he keeps it up, you or somebody appears and that means attention.I would prepare myself to ignore his carry on.Might take a few Nights as he has already had sucess in getting you doing what he wants. So ignore and sit it out. When he no longer gets the result he wants, he will abandon the old Behaviour.

Rexy, with the Fear Stage one will find many different views and opinions on this Topic.I myself, keep going but at the same time with a Pup I make sure I am not reinforcing any Fear Behaviour. When I see any Sign of Fearful Behaviour I basically ignore the Pup and adopt a very Calm and casual manner.I am showing the Pup through Body Language and response that it do"s not Matter. It helps to for the Pup to clearly understand I am Number one or Head of the Pack as that way he or she look to me for guidance in any Fearful Situation. I don't know if it's the right thing to do or not but I've always tried to distract Todd when he seems scared of something. Luckily for me (sometimes) he's an absolute pig so I bring out the food and run through a few obedience commands.

Tollers can be sensitive to lots of things too.

With my girl I tend to ignore things she percieves as scary if they're not actually scary (not going to get her etc etc)

If we're in an actually scary position with do the distraction method.

When our GSD started so show fear of things while out walking ... I would go back and make a game of it.

For example one night we were walking down the street when he suddenly got fearful of a letterbox ... so I turned around and in an excited voice I would ask him"whats this" and would touch it and look at it.

He responded almost instantly and come up to see what was happening - I would then praise him when he checked it out.

I then walked up the street a little and then come back to it - then praised him when he either ignored it or checked it out.

With louds sounds (eg fireworks) I found when things scared him, he might jump but then he would look at me to see what my reaction was. Depending on his initial reaction I would either completely ignore it or I would ask him in an excited voice "what was that". Now with loud "scary" noises - my boy goes to check it out rather then runs from it.

The other night as I was leaving the garage when few items fell off the shelf - instead of running away from the loud noise ... my GSD ran over to see what had fallen.

Try this thread for help with crating - this topic comes up quite often.
