Sayreovi
I tried to find the other thread but couldnt find it Anyway i have a couple of foster puppies here who require socialisation with other dogs. They seem to have had no other contact outside their littermates and mother, so i need some dogs who are calm and friendly to young pups. They bark and raise their hackles a fair bit when they spot another dog and because i dont have access to any friendly dogs around here they get away with it at the moment. The only dogs they have interacted with are mine. I need to get on top of this while they are young. So does anyone have any dogs that will help these guys? Staff'n'Toller
I will have Geordie and Gypsy the Stafford with me on Sunday... Gypsy has been running with other dogs since she was a pup, she doesn't like being bumped or jumped on but is not aggressive, she'll just tell them off verbally she is quite a good dog in that she can run with others but doesn't need to meet them face to face she is happy to ignore the others and do her own thing. Mel. ETA and I'm sure you know already. you can prolly get some improvement but they may always be timid - certainly alot of Kelpies are just like that - my old boy is the same. Sayreovi
Yeah unfortunately they probably will be as the "window" has already closed seeing as they are 3-4 months old. I just want them to hopefully accept other dogs presence without being so defensive. I wont be taking them with me on Sunday, too many dogs about to worry about them and getting Darcy ready lol
Staff'n'Toller
Hmmm...I thought they were a bit older, I had some good results with sister/brother Kelpies at one of my Puppy School courses - they used to come into the clinic growling and slinking around, now they are great - so there's still some hope. I think they were 12 weeks when they started with me. Fair enough about Sunday, how is Darcy's weight going? Mel. Sayreovi
Thats great!! I really want them too come around, Belle would be an excellent agility dog she has the right personality for it so long as they get over the dog thing. His weight is getting better, finally getting some coat on as well. Its hard though i will be playing with the pups then i will look at him and wonder where this weight came from same with Nova, just not used to such tiny dogs lol
shoemonster
Are you talking about when we went with NicoleL, and her poodle pup? Rascalmyshadow
Hi my poodle boy would be perfect for your pups to meet but unfortunately I am having my baby in just over a week so I can't get down there for a few more weeks. BTW Hi to everyone who I met down there I suddenly got too pregnant and couldn't get out with Bosun.
haven
I have a dog that is great for socialising dogs with issues (or without) but I can't make KCC park. If you were able to meet in another area in the eastern suburbs I'd be happy to come along.
shoemonster
Ohhh Nicole not long to go now! How is Bosun going? And the others? And you
whatevah
I think because they are litter mates you should socialise them one at a time so then they don't gang up on other dogs. Or try and hide behind each other.
shoemonster
Yeah kinda like what we do with Eddie and Molly most of the time, alot of their socialisation is done seperately as together they go a bit too silly And we don't want to risk one of them being possessive of the other
haven
I think because they are litter mates you should socialise them one at a time so then they don't gang up on other dogs. Or try and hide behind each other. That's an excellent point, they are likely to learn from eachothers behaviour if you socialise them together, which could easily lead to escalation and would definately be counter-productive. Or try and hide behind each other. Thats what i am planning too do. I just didnt expect someone to come in with another dog when they were all running free and not under my control (they were in a fenced off lead area so perfectly safe) Thanks guys, Shoey are you able to go down Saturday afternoon? Haven have pmd you

shoemonster
6 is cool Kerry put Sway on a long line, then you can do recall practises with her while she's in that environment
SwaY
well i could, but then i run the risk of her draggin me over or someone bowling into her and hurting her delicate long dainty legs something to work on.
