Meetings At Kcc Park

I tried to find the other thread but couldnt find it

Anyway i have a couple of foster puppies here who require socialisation with other dogs.

They seem to have had no other contact outside their littermates and mother, so i need some dogs who are calm and friendly to young pups.

They bark and raise their hackles a fair bit when they spot another dog and because i dont have access to any friendly dogs around here they get away with it at the moment. The only dogs they have interacted with are mine.

I need to get on top of this while they are young.

So does anyone have any dogs that will help these guys?

I will have Geordie and Gypsy the Stafford with me on Sunday...

Gypsy has been running with other dogs since she was a pup, she doesn't like being bumped or jumped on but is not aggressive, she'll just tell them off verbally

she is quite a good dog in that she can run with others but doesn't need to meet them face to face she is happy to ignore the others and do her own thing.

Mel.

ETA and I'm sure you know already. you can prolly get some improvement but they may always be timid - certainly alot of Kelpies are just like that - my old boy is the same.

Yeah unfortunately they probably will be as the "window" has already closed seeing as they are 3-4 months old. I just want them to hopefully accept other dogs presence without being so defensive.

I wont be taking them with me on Sunday, too many dogs about to worry about them and getting Darcy ready lol

Hmmm...I thought they were a bit older, I had some good results with sister/brother Kelpies at one of my Puppy School courses - they used to come into the clinic growling and slinking around, now they are great - so there's still some hope. I think they were 12 weeks when they started with me.

Fair enough about Sunday, how is Darcy's weight going?

Thats great!!

I really want them too come around, Belle would be an excellent agility dog she has the right personality for it so long as they get over the dog thing.

His weight is getting better, finally getting some coat on as well. Its hard though i will be playing with the pups then i will look at him and wonder where this weight came from same with Nova, just not used to such tiny dogs lol

I think because they are litter mates you should socialise them one at a time so then they don't gang up on other dogs. Or try and hide behind each other.

That's an excellent point, they are likely to learn from eachothers behaviour if you socialise them together, which could easily lead to escalation and would definately be counter-productive.

Thats what i am planning too do.

I just didnt expect someone to come in with another dog when they were all running free and not under my control :mad

(they were in a fenced off lead area so perfectly safe)
