Okay have uploaded videos of both Moses and Tia doing kick back stands from a sit position both from at the side and in front. Have done it with both dogs so you can see it with the different sizes. Moses is very quick, so quick you can hardly see it, Tia is a lot slower. I am not too worried about what they do after they have done the stand, will work on getting the stand for a bit longer duration later. Also have Tia learning to use her rear end by use of a telephone book and Moses at the final version of the telephone book. whatevah Posted February 19, 2007 Author Share Posted February 19, 2007 I have entered 6 obedience trials with Moses and in that time I only saw one other toller trialling in obedience at the same trial I was at. That was the trial restricted to gundogs. LOL Ness, how did you find working with the toller? Moses works incredibly fast. I have found him 100 times smart than my border. The difference between the toller vs border, at this stage!!! She is only 5 months old. Toller - more food motivated, wants to work, more clicker savvy, greater attention span, will do quite a few reps, more anticipation. Border Collie - more tug motivated, only will do a couple of reps, respods quite well to verbal better than the toller, greater memory for rembering things that hasn't practiced in quite a while, more anxious, This could all change on the border collie side of things as we go along. ness Posted February 19, 2007 Share Posted February 19, 2007 The tollers heeled better than my BC but that would have something to do with the training ROFL because since then I know Ness can heel in exactly the same way if she wants. Ness isn't your typical BC as she is more like Moses. Super food motivated, clicker savvy and great attention. I think your comparison might be a bit unfair though as your comparing a pup to a grown adult. Better to wait till they are grown up. Other than if I wanted to switch breeds I wouldn't mind a toller I didn't find an aweful lot of difference although apparently tollers are much more likely to have blonde moments then the BCs do. BCNTC Posted February 19, 2007 Share Posted February 19, 2007 lol, I have found that my BCs catch on quicker. they are not willing to do a millions reps but they dont need to because they have the trick solid after just a couple, and its burned in their brain for life, just because I dont remeber the trick, doesnt mean they dont lol they also work for absolutly anything, which I love, I dont have to have treats, but they are just as exited about "good girl" as they are about a hunk of sausage lol my Toller on the other hand is all food motivated, she has no desire whatsoever to work for a toy. she has a longer attention span, but she needs it because she sure as heck doesnt catch on very fast. she drives me nut, because when she doesn't want to do something she makes herself limp, ever tried to make a 35lbs rag doll do a sit stay? Broad jump clip was dogs second session of the learning phase. Retreive on flat is understood by the dog although because of the heat he was less enthusiastic as he would normally be.
