Weimlover Posted December 31, 2006 Share Posted December 31, 2006 Hi guys Just freaking out totaly at the moment I had to take Bailey to the vet yesterday with major vomiting and abdominal pain. They took xrays thinking it was a bowel obstruction and found apricot seeds in his intestines (bye bye apricot tree ). The vet decided to give him a enima which she thought would clear him out. They looked at him after & everthing looked okay so I took him home. During the night I woke up to Bailey vomiting fecal matter & in pain Which totally freaked me out So waited for the hour until the vet opened this morning and took him back. She thought he might have a blockage or the bowel might have folded on to it's self (sorry but don't know the medical name for it). The xray showed that the Intestine was full of gas and looked like there was a problem so they decided to operate I find out in a couple of hours how he went Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My two eat the seeds that drop off palm trees, i cant afford to get the dam things removed yet, and they are dropping faster than i can pick them all up. Diesel the Weasel Posted December 31, 2006 Share Posted December 31, 2006 My puppy went through the same surgery - not due to stones, but he had a rota virus that infected his bowel. It took a while (10 days at the vets, and a few weeks recovery at home), but he is now completely back to normal. Best wishes for you and Bailey. They must have worked because I got good news Bailey intestine had gone over on its self but when they opened him up it corrected it's self while they were exploring. He does has a very bad case of gastro so is going to stay in the hospital for a few days on a drip & pain killers. It is much better than I thought, I'm so relieved ;) I know what you are going through here because my little Cavalier has just been through the same thing....twice in 15 days. In her case it was loquat stones.She has made a complete and rapid recovery after having a fairly large section of bowel removed. OMG 2 times in 15 Days the poor thing, once would be plenty I would have been a stressy mess twice I'm so glad she is doing well, especially with major surgery. Dogs really are amazing animals at how quickly they heal & get over things. My puppy went through the same surgery - not due to stones, but he had a rota virus that infected his bowel. I had a puppy some years ago with intussusception (where the bowel telescopes back on itself) but his had tightened instead of loosening and he had to have 6 inches of bowel and 6 inches of intestine removed.
