Staffy-Lover Posted November 21, 2006 Share Posted November 21, 2006 puggles - my boy is due for a liver test to check all is well. do u usually get a bial acid test or do you get blood work? and can you tell me the fasting and whether or not meds are taken before etc.... this is the first liver test he has had to have.... his blood work for the meds is fine but just want to make sure its not killing his liver PS - 2 months seizure free and climbing...fingers crossed - THANK GOD we finally broke the fortnight cycle !! thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Baxlse Posted November 21, 2006 Share Posted November 21, 2006 Varicool, what you have described is exactly what happened to me last November with Mia, my female Chihuahua but a year later & there have been no more episodes that I've witnessed. We were in the park at the time & I thought she'd been bitten by something so of course I panicked & drove like an idiot to the vet, thinking she was dying but she came around in the car & was absolutely fine by the time we got there. I'd never seen a fit before & because I had no idea what had happened to her, I was petrified that she was going to die before I could get her in the clinic door. We had a few blood tests done but nothing showed up so I just keep an eye on her for now & my fingers crossed that it was hopefully a one-off event. If you can, place a rolled-up handkerchief in between his teeth so that he doesn't bite his tongue. This is DANGEROUS. The dog could choke on anything placed in its mouth. The dog will not bite his tongue during a seizure. :shakehead: I agree, Puggles! Where on earth did they see fit to advise THAT!!!!????? I'm actually wondering if this fellow was bitten by something to which it was allergic. That is great that he has gone 2 months! And guess what - Monte is now 9 weeks and counting!!! Odd hey that both of them are changing their seizure cycles at the same time..... perhaps it is a weather thing after all???? As for the bloods - only bloods at this point. Fast before and no medication. We have always scheduled the tests for the time that he would normally be due for his meds. Is he showing symptoms of possible liver damage/probs? Neither the neuro or my normal Vet have said this is required yet with Monte as his levels have been fine to date and he hasn't shown any symptoms of liver damage. Staffy-Lover Posted November 23, 2006 Share Posted November 23, 2006 (edited) Hey Puggles, no he doesn't show any sign of liver damage but the neuro specialist said at least once per year you should check the liver with a liver test to ensure that there is no damage... they said the tests get it in early stages rather than waiting for signs???? What was the advice given to you? did the blood tests and they are fine... but he is at the higher end of the range at the moment... Great news bout Monte going 9 wks.... god it's a relief !! Once a fortnight was nearly killing me and Maxi.... now once every two months and fingers crossed longer is UNREAL !! Hope all goes well with Monte.. Varicool,, my toes and fingers are crossed for you little fella hey is this little harvey the Russian Blue ? SueM Posted December 26, 2006 Author Share Posted December 26, 2006 Wee Harvey boy just had another seizure, it lasted for 4 minutes and I was able to video it, am uploading it to you tube now, I will take him to the vet tomorrow for blood tests etc if he doesnt have another today or off to the emergency vet :-(,I will post it on here when it has finished uploading..... SueM Posted December 26, 2006 Author Share Posted December 26, 2006 (edited) here he is I would like opinions from people that have dogs that have seizures,its not nice to watch but at least now I have something I can show my vet tomorrow....Just before the seizure he was running and playing with a little dog I am babysitting,pretty much when the video ran out he recovered quickly had a quick nap and is back to normal again.... kiahzen Posted December 26, 2006 Share Posted December 26, 2006 We had a little long haired Chi that used to do this also.. She had epilepsy and had to take medication to help with the seizures.. Mainly caused from overheating.. It usually happened on hot days or when she had been running around for a while.. It looks like the same thing and she would always be really tired after and would just sleep and rest... I would be assuming the it would be epilepsy after seeing the vid and having a little dog that used to have the same fits... I hope that he is ok.. Just try and make sure that he is safe when it is happening and there is nothing that will hurt him or no other dog to hassle him.. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
