PepitoVFR
What do people think of these? They're only cheap but dogs seem to like the ocassional one and they are supposed to be good for their teeth. Reason I ask is that the SWF has started doing very soft (dairy queen like ) poos for the last 2 days and the only thing I have changed is I've been giving her one of these strips to chew/eat in the morning. caffiend42
That's what I think of them. They can be dangerous when broken into smaller bits and can cause a choking hazard. I find pigs ears to be better.
PepitoVFR
This is what they look like:
Dog_Horse_Girl
I'd say that's the culprit if it's the only thing you've added to the dog's diet.
PepitoVFR
You're probably right. Only thing that made me wonder is that these strips are hard and what's coming out of Katie now is very soft I'll definately stop them for a few days at least. Malamum
I would say that her poo's are soft because the ingredients are crap. I would imagine they would have lots of artificial colours and preservatives etc.... It would be similar to a person who is used to eating a very healthy diet with no fast food binging on something like Macca's - they'd probably get the runs too. If you want something good for her teeth you can't go past a good raw bone - which are also nice and cheap but much better for them. caffiend42
Greenies do the same thing to our guys. Never buying them again - and they're expensive. ETA: just the look of those el cheapos give me the runs actually. Not exactly natural looking are they? bloss344
ETA: just the look of those el cheapos give me the runs actually. Not exactly natural looking are they? Yeah, beautiful colours aren't they? They could be quite high in fat too which can cause Mr. Whippy's.
7464
I won't feed them to my dog just because they are full of artificial colours and preservatives. There are lots of other reasons why they're not wonderful but that's enough for me. Dogs don't need green and red treats.
PepitoVFR
Ok I've read enough, they're now in the bin This afternoon I bought something called "Nature's Gift - Char Chews". According to the packet they are "free from any artificial additives" and are "Tasty and healthy treats for your dog"
t-time
Ok I've read enough, they're now in the bin Good job!! I particularly loved the fact that they are described on the packet a an "accessory" ;) Why do dogs go whacko for schmackos? Check out the sugar and salt content! Dog_Horse_Girl
There's nothing wrong with plain old dried liver IMO. The dogs usually love it and it's readily available in various brands and package sizes. I usually go for the "love em" brand b/c it's good quality. According to the packet they are "free from any artificial additives" and are "Tasty and healthy treats for your dog" My girl Cleo loves those char chews! A much better idea for your girl. The dried liver idea is also good, but with either of these things it is best to introduce slowly if she is not used to them eg cut the char chew in two and give half for a couple of days and once she gets used to that got to the full one. CHEAP AND NASTY is all i can say Taz got given them as a xmas prezzie one year. Threw his guts up everywhere. I have no probs with rawhide. These chews thought are rawhide thats been highly processed, glued back together and painted. Dogs (like humans) should not have artificial colouring or preservatives

Staff'n'Toller
Ewwww way too many colours for a start. There's a new product out called "Act Natural" supposed to be preservative and colour free, with natural ingredients. Haven't tried em on my dogs yet. Mel. sas
Artifical colours and preservatives would be the demon in this case I would say.
