Agility Jumps

Given up on the idea of making my own jumps, weeks later I still haven't managed to get to a major centre in order to get the right gear, so have decided to bite the bullet and buy a few.

I went to place an order last night for some but was put off very quickly by excessive postage costs, $41 for 2 jumps and a small toy ;) ;)

Where can I get them in Australia? Prefer quite quickly..... otherwise I would get them from the US.

Myszka - I've emailed the company to tell them about no discount being offered for multiple items, I would've expected an answer by now given its not a public holiday anywhere else except Vic. I hadn't considered courier though, thought it would be just as expensive. Will check it out. ;)

T(ad)pole - its not the making them, I need to get into a major centre to get the equipment, have tried locally but its too expensive or too difficult to get the right connections unless I go to Geelong, but everything I need is shut by midday on Saturday, I'd need to take a day off work to get there. ;)

Ok

What you need:

Single Jump

2 upright bars -90cm each

2 cross bars - 1m each

4 feet thingys -12cm each

8-10 (depends if u want them or not) caps.

6 T-connectors

Overall you will need 4.28m of PVC piping and 6 t-connectors.

Cut the uprights, cross bars and feet.

Fit the t-connectors and poles into place (refer to diagram). Glue the feet and uprights into the t-connector and cut up the uprights about 5cms (or less) and put another t-connector in. Then put the long part of the upright in and glue. DO NOT glue the cross bars in if you want to be able to take apart the jump.

With the last two t-connectors cut them up the back so they can be slid up and down the PVC upright.

Diagrams to come...

**Disclamer ;) - not regulation size

EDIT: this is not the jump in the pic. I will write out directions another time. EDIT AGAIN: The top bar can be dislodged (spelling??)!

Surely you could do a phone order to the hardware supplies or whoever stocks the stuff and pay by credit card or direct deposit and get them to send the stuff out to you??

t(AD)pole, what diameter is the piping? Looks good!

Ummmm... not exactly sure....I think it was 20mm. It was the second smallest at bunnings but thats probably not much use as you will have different sizes at the shop you go to.

Sorry if my instructions are a bit confusing. Its really hard to explain. I will put diagrams up if I can work out how.

S'n'T: Afraid its a case of once bitten twice shy, went to Ballarat and got all the pipe and fittings, was told conduit would do the same thing, brought it all home but the fittings are supposedly the same size and yet some fitted and some didn't. Luckily I got my money back on the fittings but have $40 worth of conduit that's only good for weave poles and cross bars. The short pieces I had cut for "feet" are useless.

If thats what happens on a face to face, no way in hell will I do it over the phone ;)

Yes, customer service seems to be sadly lacking these days... suffice to say I will not be darkening the door of a certain chain store hardware at Ballarat after several incidences of sh*tty, sorry no, service.... will spend another 15 mins on the road and go to Geelong in future... or wait til after Xmas when Warrnambools will be open ;) Then I'll make a few of my own ;)

Hi Feralpup,

another idea I saw set up at a trial for 'cheap practice jump behind tent' was 2 large witches hats (the kind you see on council roadworks) with holes in the top the same size as PVC piping . The PVC pipe was then inserted through holes as uprights(they stood upright due to witches' hats) and to prop the bars on they had used a couple of large bulldog clips, the bars rested on the piece you squeeze.

Very effective !

My OH has made me some jumps with PVC piping and to rest the bars on instead of using connectors and cutting the side out (think that is what t(AD)pole did????) he cut off a small piece of PVC pipe the same size as the upright and slit it up the back so that he could slide it over the upright but it still fit fairly tight. He then glued a small piece of curved wood onto this to prop the bar on, so I can now adjust the height of the jump easily by sliding the cut off piece of PVC up and down the upright.

This works well for me as I don't always like to train on full height but still have the option of doing so if I wish - also like to run sequences with varying height jumps as I believe this creates a more 'thinking dog' when jumping.

Hope you find everything you want !
