karen135 Posted October 31, 2006 Share Posted October 31, 2006 well thank you for the replies to my last post i have since been out and got a clicker and we are working n her knowing her name sit and lie down sit she isvery good at and is also being got to sit before being strocked in hope to disscourage jumping up she is also asked to sit befor her food bowl is placed down. lie down she is starting to get slowly but is still doing well. we are also making sure older gets food first and she sees her get it first so where to now shes has puppy classes tonight so do we carry on improving just what we are getting her to do already or woud you recomend doing more aswell if so what thanks karen Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
TessaBella Posted October 31, 2006 Share Posted October 31, 2006 What you're doing now sounds good, but also you might want to try making sure you are ALWAYS first through the door. ask her to sit, then you walk through then give her a release command so she knows it's ok for her to walk through now. Yeah, I knoe how you feel. I'm picking up my first puppy on the 20th November and I'm quite nervous. Just trying to make sure I've got my tools sorted (NILIF, TOT etc.). karen135 Posted November 1, 2006 Author Share Posted November 1, 2006 well we took daisy to puppy classes last night and she was good only one incident where she got a bit snappy with another dog the instructor told her no and she done the same to her so was shown what to do basicaly she turned her over and held her down and told her no and waited until she stopped than she went and played she said she is doing this to challange for top place and to be in charge she tried it on with me this morning soi did the same she didnt take loong to stop and submit. theonly problem we do have now is our 1 yr old will be on the floor and she will try pulling his socks off ad he cries cos she is doing it how ca i stop this as she has done it 2 timess today already. karen Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Turned the pup on her back and held there till she stopped struggling? Is that how it was? This was used in training several years ago but I didn't think anyone was still doing it. How old and what breed is your pup? There are much better ways to deal with puppy behaviours. As far as pulling the babies socks off she really is just being a puppy and doing what puppies do :D Obviously you are never leaving the baby and puppy alone so you are there to stop the behaviour immediately. Gretel Posted November 5, 2006 Share Posted November 5, 2006 Water sprays are wonderful Karen Most dogs and pups don't appreciate a squirt in the face and it stops them in their tracks! You will sometimes get a dog who goes crazy with water spray though and thinks it's a great game - doesn't work for them. Kavik Posted November 5, 2006 Share Posted November 5, 2006 I wouldn't repeat what the instructor did to your puppy, as it can backfire and the dog might bite you! And with the cross you've described you may have a big dog with a very strong bite! I would work on socialising with older quiet dogs so Daisy learns good doggy manners and work on getting her attention on you if she gets too full on with oither dogs.
