SwaY
Sway has some light flakey skin showing on top of her fur. She is bathed with Fidos shampoo. Her coat is nice soft and shiny, but she has some flakes like dandruff poping up mainy on her back. But if i rub her fur the wrong way more pop up. I have read fish oil is good for this. But they never say how they administer it. Do i give her human capsules? or is there a droper system i can use? Or do i add some to her food? Raising kids was easier Thanks
Norskgra
I feed my dogs fish oil capsules every day. I get which ever ones are on special at our chemist. Lately it has been Blackmores. The dose is 1 capsule for every 10kg body weight. Our dogs come running when they hear me pick up the container and eat them out of my hand. dogcop
Yep fish oil capsules are what we use to or polyunsaturated veg oil. Its not as good as fish oil. You can squeze the oil out of the cap if you need to doesn't matter how they get it.

sas
I highly reccomend Fish Oil with Vit E included (Thompsons brand). In addition Vit Cream to the actual coat. This is Xander a previous foster Dane, the before and after pictures showed how the above helped him achieve this in 1 month. I've never had a worry with giving the capsuals, they love them! We work on the ratio of 1 tab per 10 kg's of body weight. You need to get the Fishoil with the Vit E already included or you'll have to give 1 x Vit E tab every 2nd day. Tilly
I have also heard that Livamol is excellent for their coat. I haven't tried it yet (it is on order) but it might be worth a try. I have used Omega 3 on my GSD boy - which was dosed at 1 pump per 7kg of body weight.
Wabbit
I also use the Omega 3 oil, same as Tilly. Really does make a difference to their skin and coat.
boxagirl
Tilly I've been wanting to get some livamol for Bondi for awhile, do you know where abouts it is available?
Wabbit
Boxagirl, you can get it from most good stockfeed suppliers - its actually a livestock supplement. Very good for coats on show horses! boxagirl
Thanks Wabbit. Do you know the dosage amounts that you would give a dog?

Wabbit
The link below says 25g to 50g (1 - 2 tablespoons) www.iahp.com.au/datasheets/Livamol%20.pdf International Animal Health Products is the manufacturer. I've used it in horses but not in dogs (yet!)
nedsur
We use the livamol on our shelties (1tspn) and find it works well. Can also apparently bring out the red in their coats so I've been told and not so good on black coats. Ours are sable so it doesn't matter.
