cowanbree
Dremel them. Most brilliant thing I have ever found, think it is actually a drill?? You attach a sanding barrel on it and way you go. Very easy, dogs don’t mind it and you can go back past the quick without them feeling a thing. Only word of warning is keeping changing nails as they heat up very quickly
bloss344
I 2nd the Dremel. Bob actually quite enjoys it and he usually hates his feet being touched. I bought a cheapie at Bunnings about $15, has lots of attachments and the Dremel brand sanding sleeves fit it.
dougie
Because he lets me near his feet Ive just been cutting the tiniest bit off every few days. His nails are black which sucks as I cant see the quick so I just cut the smallest amount. .... the quick stays a constant distance from the end of nail. when you nibble them away like that the quick retracts. the more the dog gets used to the exercise the easier it is

Teebs
Well, we had a snuggle on the loung with a nail file, got a bit off the bad ones, but they are still pretty bad. He was pretty good, but after 20 mins he took his paw away and stuck it in his mouth.. so i thought i better leave him !! lol I noticed that one nail looks like it is bleeding- up the top near his toe. Isnt sore or anything, but had a bit of dried blood. I am worried that if i take him to the vets they will cut too much of fand he will be in pain there isnt much nail left before the quick on the bad ones. Someone tell me what to do!! If he's sedated he wont feel them cut into the quick. They'll stop the bleeding quickly and then he'll be fine. Better than fine actually because walking on long nails hurt. malleerr
Hey TB - the name of the clippers i got are "Bamboo" they are really good like i said, they have a file and powder to stop any bleeds. If you don't want to take him to the vets, just keep doing what you did last night and file away at them, it might take awhile but you will get there When Mal had hers done at the vets they cut them back really short and a few bleed but she was not in any pain whatsoever. BTW - the skate board sounds the easiest.......... Edited October 4, 2006 by malleerr
