I know that they have to have their vaccinations up to 16 weeks and that they should not be exposed to strange dogs before all their vaccs. After that, is it reasonable to be able to socialise them wit my mums staffy who is 2 years old? Are there any health concerns regarding that they shouldn't be playing around too much at that stage in case they injure themselves in their growing period? Would supervised play be better at say 4 months onwards? Would having two pups at the same time be risky? We would like them to grow up with each other and we are dedicated to socialising and training one each. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
shekhina Posted September 5, 2006 Share Posted September 5, 2006 Two pups together can be a handful, but if you're willing to train them separately then good luck. Be aware that the pups may bond better with each other than with you. As for playing with older dogs, make sure you're there to supervise. When I brought my Rotty pup home to a 3 year old German Shepherd Dog I didn't let them play together until the Rotty was around 4-5 months old, and even then it was still supervised. My two are the same age, but we got Molly at 8 months, and having two 8 moths olds was chaos, even now they are 14 months and I think they are triple trouble (worse than double trouble!) Dogsfevr Posted September 5, 2006 Share Posted September 5, 2006 As i stated in the other post its purely personnal.If your truley dedicated to training then get 2 .Some will say what till later & that can have its own problems. For example you could get 1 now what a few years & then bring in pup older dog hates pup what to do?? I see now issues in getting 2 & it really isnt that much more work if your totally honest with yourself about the time needed to be spent on the pups. Lets face it by 12 months there adults & you can enjoy both together walk them together do everything together or bring in a pup later which means sepearting spending time with pup & other dog ,that isnt easy especially if you get a jealous dog Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My only concern that was because we work, it will be on it's own after the initial time off I have to spend with it. But we are very active after work and will be exercising it daily and taking it every where on the weekends etc. Shoemonster - your staffys crack me up. It may not be so with other breeds but definitely with Rottweilers.If you get one of each sex it's unlikely that there will be problems. I'm so glad someone said this! Like dobermanns, they might be "fully grown" (but not filled out) by 12 mths...but they have puppy brains for ALOT longer!!! some can take up to the age of 4 to act mature! ;) although you usually see them begin to "get a brain" by about 2yrs onwards... think 16yr old teenagers...and you get the idea! ;) but they're so adorable...you forgive them anyway!
