Sparkle Posted September 3, 2006 Share Posted September 3, 2006 Ive taught my dog to drop and shes going great now i just say "drop" and she does it i dont even have to lower my hand and drag it in front of her WOOHOO Anyway ive been attempting to teach her to roll over but i need some help anyone got some pointers???? Staff'n'Toller Posted September 3, 2006 Share Posted September 3, 2006 Roll over has two parts- first you need to get her to happily lay on her side, then extend it to rolling right over. Luring with food usually works- you just need to get in going in the right direction for her. Some dogs find roll over easier than others. Mel. Rom Posted September 3, 2006 Share Posted September 3, 2006 If you are luring with a treat, once you have the dog in the drop, if you move the treat from their nose kind of across their neck btn their ear and shoulder (maybe closer to the shoulder than the ear), they try to follow the treat with their nose and they can only turn their head so far before they start to roll. shoemonster Posted September 3, 2006 Share Posted September 3, 2006 I couldn't lure, they kept spinning So I had my oh flip them (they were fine with it and he only had to do it maybe 3 times) and they got the idea and I could kind of lure after that!!! Misty is a whole nuther story... lol when is a normal down she lays down straight and square, so square that there aint NOTHING that can knock her over, she lays comfortabley on her side and roll onto her back, but one she is on her back she will NOT finnish rolling over, she will only back back to the side she started on, you cant push this dog or lure her, and I cant condition it it she never under any circumstances rolls onto the other side I havent given up though.. I started training my dog this way last night and it works great Here's a video of our progress so far after... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1880284739947191949 He's in a goofy mood today but it took no time at all to get him flopping onto his side and he's getting the hang of rolling over to the other now. He's managed to rollover back to the drop position twice now, but he hasn't quite twigged that he needs to do it this way every time to get the reward yet. Oh, I taught a young girl at training today to get her anatolian shepherd to roll over, it was so gorgeous!!! And she picked it up really fast, clever girl, was laying on her side within 2-3 goes and rolling over after about 10 goes The girl was wrapt too, and it was fun for me, I've never taught anyone anything before!!!
