I used luring to teach mine, i found it easier to teach them to roll on their right side.

Pretty much just got them to drop, and used food to turn their head and they eventually turned enough to roll over lol

After several attempts they should figure out what you are doing lol

Some dogs find roll over easier than others.

 so true! My aunts whippet cannot roll over to save herself > which, as my brother said "is hard when your shaped like a potato wedge" LOL

Yep- my Stafford can do it but she finds it uncomfortable, and needs a lot of coaxing to do it lol. The Kelpies, Borders etc seem to find it easier.

If you are luring with a treat, once you have the dog in the drop, if you move the treat from their nose kind of across their neck btn their ear and shoulder (maybe closer to the shoulder than the ear), they try to follow the treat with their nose and they can only turn their head so far before they start to roll. But as with any training progression, treat for the small behaviours and build on that to get the full movement.

lol Happy had no problem learning roll over luring with a treat. Misty is a whole nuther story... lol when is a normal down she lays down straight and square, so square that there aint NOTHING that can knock her over, she lays comfortabley on her side and roll onto her back, but one she is on her back she will NOT finnish rolling over, she will only back back to the side she started on, you cant push this dog or lure her, and I cant condition it it she never under any circumstances rolls onto the other side  I havent given up though.. I have been trying to get her to roll over since she was a pup and she is 4 years old, why stop attempting now lol

Roll over has two parts- first you need to get her to happily lay on her side, then extend it to rolling right over.

Luring with food usually works- you just need to get in going in the right direction for her.

I started training my dog this way last night and it works great :)

Here's a video of our progress so far after...

He's in a goofy mood today  but it took no time at all to get him flopping onto his side and he's getting the hang of rolling over to the other now. He's managed to rollover back to the drop position twice now, but he hasn't quite twigged that he needs to do it this way every time to get the reward yet.

Molly rolls over when she is at a door that is closed that she wants to get through, but we couldn't use that to shape because she didn't do it reguarly enough!!! :D

Jaybeece, cute vid!!! I will have to video my brats doing it

haha yeah they are as adorable as they are insane!!! :)

Oh, I taught a young girl at training today to get her anatolian shepherd to roll over, it was so gorgeous!!! And she picked it up really fast, clever girl, was laying on her side within 2-3 goes and rolling over after about 10 goes

The girl was wrapt too, and it was fun for me, I've never taught anyone anything before!!!
