Erny
Kal's is "quick quick". Didn't know the Guide Dogs have this as theirs too, until fairly recently. Teaching a toilet command is actually Classical Conditioning. Similar to "Pavlov's Dog" ... where the result was that a bell would ring and the dog would salivate (involuntary response). Repeat it enough and it will "occur". Youngsters don't seem to have the bladder control necessary to be able to cope with other big emotionalities happening at the same time (eg. excitement, anxiety etc.). Provided they are not inadvertently reinforced for the behaviour, the 'condition' generally improves with age. Edited July 7, 2006 by Erny
Vehs
Jim wees on command for "toliet" I thought I had him pooing on cue, but I think that was more coincidence, but he does respond to the black poo bag when we are at the club and will run off to a secluded spot. I just kept saying 'toliet' when we were housetraining him Edited July 7, 2006 by Vehs

Kal will poo (if there's poo to be had) if there's no wee left. Can't say she responds to the black poo bag, though. I think she figures it's something I simply collect valuables in. Wonder if they ever wonder why we want their poo so much and so badly. I expect they think they're doing us a big favour. MonElite
A prime example of her peeing just happened. OH took Rex out for a run. I took her to the yard for toilet and a bit of a chasing of the toy. Got back in the house and she just walked around following me. OH walked in with Rex. She went to them all happy and did a little squat while greeting them. Im interested if this is over stimulation for her? Do I call that to much stress? She doesnt do it all the time, just occasionally and it has reduced in the two weeks I have her.
Erny
Play/exercise will often stimulate elimination. Once play is done, are you coming inside too soon? Or are you giving her time to stop and think about releasing her bladder?
MonElite
She emptied outside and run home - I guess she was cold. I called her and showed her the toy which she chased for maybe 30 seconds and I finished her wanting more. I walked around for her to do nr 2 she didnt so I went inside she calmed down, we were inside for 5-10 minutes when they walked in.
Rom
A lady at our club has a Visla who assumes the position when given the toilet command regardless of whether she needs to go or not. So cute...just squats and looks at her owner as if to say 'See, there's nothing there!. Had a friend who was very proper about the language she used and was complaining about her first ever puppies indoor toilet habits and referred to them as 'Archies' cuz of the shape of the dogs back when they were going. Had a few giggles about that and decided that Archie would be our cue word. On the pooh pick up side of things, my girl looks at me with a kind of embarrased/disgusted look when I pick up after her.....'What do you want that for??' Kind of like the way I look at her when when she wants to roll in dead things  ETA: Friends in Canada tell their dogs to 'Take a dump' Edited July 8, 2006 by Rom
TigerJack
My toilet command word was also accidental. It is 'quickly' because when Jack was a pup, it was the middle of winter. I would be outside in the cold, shivering and waiting for him to go, muttering quickly quickly to myself. Inadvertantly turned it into his command word. I ended up using it for my other dogs later, when they came along because I didn't want them all to have different words. It's OK for a toilet word as it is far less embarrassing when you are out in public to say 'go and do a quickly' ather than 'do a wee wee' or something like that. jls
 I love your timing ha ha ha But on a good note, I found it very handy, escpecially before car trips etc. Saved big head aches etc. Plus later on in life, especially helpful to train her, to only use certain areas, such as on designated spots only. My girl got soo ill, an couldn't risk her getting caught outdoors in the rain, soo in those occasions, had a water proof tarp handy, and trained her to only use that. Easy clean, she wasn't restrained to certain part of the house either. God send etc. jls I accidentally trained to toilet on command when I was house training because everytime i put him outside i would say the word, then when he went I would make a huge fuss saying the word and 'good boy', now he sort of knows. If I had have known I could use it I would have picked a better word though- last night I was at the park, got him out of the car and onto the grass and was saying 'wee wee zig, good boy, wee wee' while a pack of footballers ran past training
MonElite
I think she got the idea of the command - not sure but when I take her out and say to her what to do she does it. And lest say an hour later she will do it on command again. She still gets excited and does drip a bit. OH came from work today she run to the door to say hello, drippppp when she got to him all happy.
Christina77
My Bella will wee/no2's on command , and she will nudge you with her nose if she needs to go outside it just happend to all fall in place when we trained her as a puppy, can I just add one thing that might be usefull dribble ? :p If you board your pets and they have been tought to relieve themselves on command , let the Kennel staff know ! My dog is boarded once a month , and for several months after we picked her up after her overninght stay she weeeeeeeeed the longest wee , we then realised she wouldn't have gone to relieve herself 1. because she was tought to go on grass and 2. wasn't given a command . Now the staff know and make her go before puppy playtime , otherwise she still forgets :p
