Herr H,

Um........I think you took me the wrong way. I actually think the NDTF seems the best course to do.

I am thinking about it in the future. Back to study after all these years.......eeck.

What is Herr H?

LL, I wasn't sounding off at you, so I hope I didn't come across all gruff and serious? I'm a very light hearted person, (ask Erny) I just don't think much of some trainers or schools as they have no idea what their doing and it's mostly just the blind leading the blind.

Okay, I'll be the first to say I'm on a lifetime membership and I think its well worth it.. $250 for a lifetime membership, but thats for my lifetime not the lifetime of my dogs. I can bring any number of dogs there. Also have the 24 hour a day phoneline for trainer help in case I need help with a problem when I'm not at training.

I decided on that training school because after the free trial day, Blade responded better than he'd responded to any other training method we'd tried with him.

In any case, I have no qualms about bringing my dogs to them because I like their methods and they work. Only thing is the class costs are ridiculous. But I guess they gotta make something back from offering lifetime memberships.

That's sounds like a great deal! Who do you train with?

i want a centre where they have equipment set up and you jus pay a fee to use it ...

I can understand where you're coming from and why you would want this. When Kal was doing a spot of agility, I would have enjoyed a jaunt around the obstacles in our own fashion and time as well.

The problem is, not everyone is safety conscious. Not everyone thinks of the accidents that CAN happen to their dog, before it happens. Not everyone is aware that they have to think of their own dog and be aware of where others are as well. Consequently, these things usually do need to be monitored and controlled. Hence they are normally run under a class instruction environment.

There is also the club's insurance to think about. Don't know how they'd stand if an incident occurred during a time of no supervision.

You could try Kepala K9 Country Club (in Victoria). Has agility equipment already setup in an enclosed area so you just pay for the time and take your dog through off lead. You can also take the dog for a swim afterwards in the indoor pool. Great facility..

At our obedience club it is $55 per year and $30 after that - no additional costs per week. This includes obedience through to trialling level (and 1:1 trialling coaching each week - if you get your name on the board quick enough!), puppy preschool, a really well put together puppy class, agility and flyball.

I can't do agility there though, so my agility club is $70 per year (I think, maybe more) and $5 per class attended. I think it is kinda expensive, particularly when I add in my petrol costs, but I love the club and it only offers agility which means it is kinda specialised in what they offer.

Can't fault either club!

  • 4 weeks later...
I've always trained at CCCQ affiliated clubs, which generally are a membership per year fee plus small amount per week. I don't trust private training companies, I feel it's too likely they are most interested in the dollars not the dogs.

Southside - $10 membership per year ($5 joining fee first year) and $4 per class

Redlands - $15 membership per year ($5 joining fee first year) and $3 per class

I agree! Ours is

$10 membership per year. Once of joining fee $10 (recieve a new membership bag with advertising and some goodies)

$4 per night per dog

All these costs and prices are just so so ridiculously cheap & good value for spending time with your best friend ..

How any dog-owner could complain at the price for what usually includes tuition/advice/facilities/ equipment/lighting/venue hire

just completely BAFFLES me.

Looking at the most "expensive" options, they seem to be around $200 per year assuming attendance every week, & assuming you get an hour's training ?

ie cost per hour = $3.85

Of course, for that $200 for 52 hours you could buy yourself:

2 hours golf tuition at Broadwater

4 hours horse-riding ( no tuition) in Port Macquarie

3 hours sufing tuition

I guess you get my drift ........
