whatevah
Retrieve Another Dog By the Lead Uses Fun trick, and you can get your dog to get your other dog, without you having walk up and get him yourself. Equipment Needed Two dogs, Long Lead (170cm or more), Clicker, Food, Prerequisite Dog doing retrieving must know retrieve, dog being retrieving must know how to come and to do a stand stay or wait. Dogs should preferably know each other and get on well. Dog doing the retrieving should be bigger than the one being retrieved. It would be very hard to teach a cavalier to retrive a new foundland. I have taught Moses my Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, 18kg to retrieve Josh my flatcoated retriever 34kg, so it can be done. To learn retrieve go here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=10632 Method Step 1 go to http://www.shirleychong.com/keepers/retrieve.html and follow all steps, take your time and don't rush the dog, make sure you meet the criteria for a step before moving to the next step. Instead of a dumbell you are going to use a lead. Now if you have done this before with a dumbell, it should go a lot quicker. If your dog is like mine, where I simply just looked at the lead and he went and picked it up and brought it to hand you may be able to cut out some of the steps in the clicker retrieve. Do this step in a distraction free area without any dogs around. Step 2 You now are going to place the lead on the ground, when he brings it back and places it into your hand you click and treat. Do this for about 5 repetitions placing the lead at various distances. Step 3 You are now going to place the lead on top of a chair, to get him used to retrieving objects above his head. Do about 5 reps. Step 4 Now place the lead across two chairs that are spaced apart, this is to get him used to getting the lead in the middle, and pulling it off the chairs to bring to you. Do this for about 5 reps. Step 5 Now place the lead on your other dog, send your dog and see what happens, do this step from a short distance away. You will need your other dog standing still. Your other dog may resist being pulled by your other dog. When the dog is retrieved and the dog puts the lead in your hand, you then reward both dogs. It is very important to reward the dog that is being retrieved as it is more likely that he will come next time. Trouble Shooting Dog doesn't want to be retrieved. Josh was a bit hesitant as he had no idea what was going on, so I gave him a come signal with my hand low to the ground and then he came. Found that one he knew he was being rewarded he came more readily when Moses pulled on his lead. Will post photos later. This trick took us one session, then a couple of sessions to polish off, and then I took it outside. Here are the photos.
