Molly Waving!

Recommended Posts

I taught Molly to wave this arvo

She learns everything so quick, she is a clever little girl

Eddie waving, he takes longer to learn and his wave is still only a paw lift

But he has lots of energy for things like this!!!

Wow - thats nice!!! Well done!!

How did you get the wave SM? Darcy can high 5 (she normally gives me a "10" instead - very funny!) but haven't tried shake paws at all and I'd prefer a wave to the shake!

Yeah Eddie is a ball of muscle!

I didn't realise til I looked at the pics how cute it is that Molly's little white paw is waving!!! lol

Feral pup, I will attempt to explain how! I am bad at explaining things so forgive me if it is confusing  If your pup already knows high 5 then you are 90% of the way there

I used a clicker, and treats and I sat on the ground in front of her and picked up her paw, ct (click & treat)

then when she was picking up her paw, I put my hand under it so she was tapping or pawing at my hand

then once she had that I lifted my hand higher up til it was the height in the pics and she was pawing my hand at that height

(I think your pup would be starting about here if she knows high 5)

then I stood up and did it and gradually moved my hand up higher so it was at my waist and she was pawing the air

I ct every time her paw comes off the ground at the start, and then once she was pawing I ct for every high paw lift, so she learned to lift it higher to get a treat

This is when I started saying wave and putting a wave signal to it, once she had learned the behviour, so now it is "wave" and a wave hand signal from me standing up

We went through a hell of a lot of treats to get it, but that is the best way imo, as she thinks it is great fun and she is food obsessed so it is sure to work! She'll do anything for food!

Hope that makes some sort of sense!

I don't know if this would be the "correct" way to teach it. I looked to see if dunny brush had it and kind of varied the teaching for shake but it worked at least! Now I've just got to get Eddie doing it!

There are step by step instructions under the dog tricks, at the top of this forum with lots of photos of dogs and cats waving and begging. Taught Moses a new trick the other day, I send him out to Josh my other dog, and he brings him to me on the lead.

Sorry! I looked in all your tricks but must have been blind to this one! lol

I always check out your stuff first, I'm a fan!!!!

That's really cool about teaching Moses to get Josh! I should teach them that one (maybe teach it to eddie as he is bigger, molly will be easier to move!!!) Though it will have to wait til they are slightly less psycho!!!

Hi

I am new to this forum, I came across it while looking for information on obedience for my dog, also named Molly, who is a Amstaff and the name Molly grabbed my attention, especially when I saw your dog also is Black and white, looks similar to my dog...Is your dog a staffie also? How old? My molly is 6.

I like the trick you taught her, well done!!

Yeah Molly has all white paws lol..shame you guys are in Melbourne...I was born and bred down there...our Molly wasnt socialised well as a puppy at all (she was my brothers dog originally and weve just taken her of their hands).. Our molly has a bandage on one of her paws as she has what seems to be a grass seed or something in between her toes(see attached picture, you can see the little red lump)..so weve put this gooey stuff on them that is supposed to draw it out) shes had it on all night and half the day and shes almost managed to pull the bandage of..had enough she sais..

Weve just changed the bandages, looks like maybe whatever was in there came out as there was a little bit of black spec of something..and lots of blood...so weve put more gooey stuff on and new bandages..and now trying to make sure she leaves them be...shes sitting under the desk now(its a crappy day in Sydney today)

so hopefully her sore will heal now..
