sharynd
I have been useing advantix for the past four months to control the usual parasites, how ever, it doesn't seem to be working, before i was using frontline plus then switched to include mosie and tick, both in my area, but the problem is fleas, i applied the product last monday and the fleas are back today .my dogs are in the 25 to 32kg weight range im using the product for over 30kg . i never had a problem with frontline. i havnt washed the dogs since applying the product, cant find any in the bedding but it is supposed to clear that also, they get their flea prevention every month without fail, its only been the last 2 months ive had the problem, has anyone else had any problems with it or what do you all recomend, im going back to the other i think. Sometimes it's good to change brands becasue fleas and ticks can build up a resisitance to the same active. Try another spot-on than come back and try Advantix again later. blurr
Have you taken your dog to any new places recently? Done some gardening? Your dog can pick up fleas from a walk down the road, or the beach or a cat or native animal may pass thru your yard, drop some flea eggs and then you could have a flea breeding ground if conditions are good. If the larval stage fleas (probably in your yard) feel any vibrations, (such as gardening/mowing) they can hatch out and away they go!! Just because you cant see anything in the bedding, it doesn't mean larvae or eggs arent there. Wash the bedding in a hot cycle in the washing machine. Vacume your carpets twice a week or more (in case they have laid eggs there - or between floor boards). A flea can still jump on your animal at any time - if you are seeing fleas, chances are they are very sick and the preventative is working. Do your dogs swim a lot? If they do, maybe you should stick with frontline as it is water fast. Speak to Bayer (advantix maker) - they are very helpful. By the way, the tick prevention is only effective if applied every 2 weeks - same as frontline plus. (With the changing of brands thing, I would suspect that the fleas would NOT build up a resistance within 2 months). Just keep on with your prevention monthly (even thru winter). :D

BC4ME
Hey everyone Stop and think about the life cyle of a flea for the moment. The eggs lay dormant in the ground (like forever), we've had a little bit of rain and lovely sunny warm days. Perfect weather for all those dorment flea eggs to hatch and also ticks to thrive. Because so many fleas are hatching now I would dose your pets every two weeks and see if this stops the invasion before these fleas mature and start laying more eggs. Advantix is an excellent product. If you are not happy with the products ring the free toll number and let Bayer know they are very helpful.
