Every outing for any dog is a training session - it could be a training session to weaken that recall.....
if you can keep him at the far end, fine our dogs will stay away, but don't go off if the odd one comes over for a nose.

No dog should go for a nose up to anything/anyone without owners aproval. That is IMHO a definition of a responsible ownership. The reality is that hardly any dog can do that - mine included, although I strive to achieve that.

Now Im confused as some say come and some say dont, I dont want to cramp anyones style.

I can just see Riley turning around now and asking in all the excitement if he can go up to another dog and play. :)

I'll catch up with everyone at the next one. Im giving this one a miss. Since I havent got 100% recall Riley and I will go to the local off leash park instead

Myszka, both of the other days we turned up early with Flame. Maybe we could turn up early and Flame and Rex could meet and have a play, then when other people start showing up you could assess whether or not to stay?

You just know, its your dog.

Nobody can tell you if you should come or not, that is your decision to make as the dog owner.

We'd love to see rex get along with jefe, yet we can not garantee that will be the case. We don't know your dog. I know my dog and he won't have a go unless provoked. or if your dog is white-fluffy-rabbit-look-alike... which I know rex isn't.

We could show up early as well, I know my dog will wag its tail  and say hi, all introductions on leash of course.

I wouldn't take a fear aggressive dog to a DOL meet.

To paraphrase K9, it's only a training exercise if you have a goal and you control all the other players. I don't know how you can do that in a park full of excited dogs running, jumping, chasing & play barking.

How are you going to watch Rex from every angle to make sure your he isn't bothered by any of these dogs? Maybe you will be holding him on a short leash, alert for any approaching dogs, will he read the signals you are sending & become worried & stressed before another dog even approaches.

I've only been to 1 meet and when I arrived with my dog on-lead he was mounted by a dog before I got the gate shut at the park  A few other dogs came over to sniff the my dog which I think is normal behaviour. When I opened my bag a mob of dogs appeared to see if I had any food :)

I kept my dog on-lead to see how the other dogs behaved and then let him go off-lead. I was worried he would be rough with the little dogs but he was fine apart from continually sniffing a cute dane with pink toenails so I put him back on-lead to settle.

Well I can see both sides.

I would be nervous about taking my dog as I know he doesn't have reliable recall when distracted and though well socialised is far too keen to meet other dogs.

I have no doubt he would want to charge up to greet Rex (or any dog) if he was offlead, I also have no doubt if told off (by the other dog) he would submit immediately but do I have a right to allow my dog to cause stress to another dog ??

I don't think so.

I don't think we would gain anything training wise or fun by keeping him onlead in case another dog took a dislike to him and a fight started

I don't have any fenced offlead areas around here to 'practice' in, I take him to my park on a flexi lead and occasionally let him off for a bit of a run once he is more worn out and only if it is really quiet and my confidence is high, I'm too scared he will go on the road and get hurt :)

Myszka has seen my Jones bolt for a poor lady at the park and he was totally DEAF to me !!! He was only being friendly but it is scary for the other party and in my view unacceptable and I take full responsibilty for his bad behaviour !!

*yes I changed my ID again Myszka :p Hope you had a lovely holiday and are well.

Well, almost every Sunday we take Jefe to one off leash park in Galston Rd. Hornsby. What we love about this park is that it has a main door that alows you and your dog to come to the park and stay inside I will say 2.5mx2.5 area that is still separated from the main park. In this area the welcome committee can come and HAVE A LOOK without any contact. We can see how the other dogs react and also Jefe. This gives you the opportunity tu sense around and if you don't like it well is easy to leave.

If it is not far away form you, we can meet there any sunday about 9 in the morning

Its far from me...

is Jefe an entire male?

I go to Gannons Park in Peahurst, its huge and I have a good visibility of who is comming.

Anyone on the horison - I call my dog and walk the other direction (unless I know the dog and owners)

Large enough for my dog to have an area to run free with dogs he knows. A dog on a horison - I call my dog.

Not anymore :clap::vomit:

I think that's a good point. That's got a lot do with the character of the dog.

I think is a good thing for dogs, and I would not hesitate to desex our next dog. even if purebreed and pedigree. I don't plan to breed dogs... they also look nicer.

than there is a chance, especially if he was done when he was young.

I wont say that Im coming for sure, 50 milion things might come up between now and than. including me possibly getting the puppy that weekend

Sunny70 - regardless of DOL meet we have to get together.

Hi, I just read this whole thread, well whether it is the first weekend of the month or not I can make it any Sunday because I live very close. As you all know my dog goes bezerk and he definitely has no recall when he's running 100km BUT he's so lovely and friendly that doesn't matter because it's a fenced area.

So if anyone feels like having a DOL meet at Rouse Hill I'm happy to bring my crazy Staffy!
