For your information, and for those who may be interested:

Just found out that the next National Dog Trainers Federation (NDTF) dog trainers' course, beginning 6th May, was originally booked out. However there's apparently been a few students transfer to the course that begins in September, so there are a limited number of places available for the course commencing 6th May if anyone is interested.

If you are, HERE'S the link for some information on NDTF, contact details etc. :(

*BUMP*

Come on guys don't let winter scare you off! Everyone wants to jump on the summer courses, then they fill up and people cry because they missed out again

Hi HR,

I have PM-ed you :) . What's wrong with Winter, I have trained my past dogs in all conditions, used to make the poor things drop in puddles for trial practice  . What a mean mummy I am :D .

Cheers,

Corine

Winter is good. I did my course through Winter. At least you can be energetic with the dogs (as you need to be). It's harder in the hot summer months to be as outwardly enthusiastic.

That's a good point Erny but most people aren't as enthusiatic or as fit as you

Hi Ernie & HR

Do Ndtf run a course most years, in Victoria that is?

I will be back in Victoria at end of year I should imagine and would rather like to study a recognised course, never had the time or a job that would allow me to previously.....

Thanks

Annie and her boyz

Hi Annie,

They run the course 3 times a year and they have almost got the distance learning package up and running with a few setbacks but it's coming

:vomit: Do you know if there is anything similar for Qlders?

Hi petaj.

Only that the NDTF distance learning course will be up and running soon. As HR mentions in his post (above), there's been a few unexpected set backs on this new distance learning course, but these are being sorted.

If you're interested, you could email NDTF (see OP .... I added the NDTF link there) and ask for your name to be added to their list. From what I gather, the first distance learning course is full (I think - you should double check this), with many on the list for the second distance course.

Thanks for the info HR,

As we are 'on the road' distance education may be a bit difficult, I don't have a computer whilst I am travelling, I just borrow or use cafes and or Libraries!

But when I get back to Victoria I shall make contact with Ndtf.

Annie,

If you do IT, I might too. I want to learn to talk the lingo, instead of just being on an old boring "hands on" type person, LOL.

I did wonder about this course late last year. I became distracted from it, when I heard of overseas courses. Poor husband, would much rather me spend money here, instead of travelling again in my quest of being a better trainer to my dogs.

But Erny, how can it be full when they havent finsalised any details yet? I've been on the waiting list for months to get info about the course and haven't heard a peep out of them.

Do you mean that they've got more people on the list than places in the course?

Or have they taken money from people and finalised their places before they've even got the details of the course finalised?

Or didnt they send me the details when they became available, and I've missed out?

That's what I meant .... but know that I'm not an NDTF employee, it's only that my ear is close to the ground. Info is 2nd hand. So, if you're interested and not already on their 'list' it's worth checking with them.

As I understand it, the delays have been in relation to beaurocratic govt requirements due to the course being nationally accredited. It WILL happen, though, as soon as they can finalise the material etc.

Bumping this up again ;). I am interested in possibly doing the Certificate III in Dog Behaviour and Training course starting in September (Unless it is full already of course), and was just wondering if anyone has done it and what did they think?

i'm half way through and i LOVE IT.... highly recomended :D , if you have the time and money. only advise i have is to allow extra time for dog training, of both your dog and at obediance schools.

Hi Petmezz :D

I agree with you. I remember when I did my course, I was running a full time plus business on my own and had other outside commitments as well. Doing the course took up any and every spare moment I had. Before I started the course, I knew I didn't know much in the way of dog training. By doing the course, I realised that whilst I'd learnt absolutely heaps, I realised how much more about dogs there was to know. Because I put in all the 'mandatory' training hours early in the course, I had course time remaining to put in extra.

Even though I had little to no time for much else in life (save for my animal commitments, which always did and do remain a priority), I was quite sad when the course ended. I loved it and was enthralled by the information given. I went on to do a further couple of specialist courses available, but could easily have become a professional student in the field of dogs, dog training and behaviour. ....................... Actually, in a way, I guess I have! :)

Glad you're enjoying it, it seems, as I did and do. :(

I'm enrolled to do the distance education course when it starts. Was last told the earliest it would begin is in August and that there is quite a few people (100's) on the waiting list.

JBB, I've paid an enrollment fee and my first insallment for the course, so I'm assuming that others would have done the same so the course would be full, even though it hasn't been finalised. It was supposed to start at the begining of this year and payments were made last year. As you say, NDTF aren't very good at getting back to you, I ring them every month or so. Seems there has been a turnover of staff as well, which hasn't helped things. Must add, though, that the staff are very helpful and apologetic when I ring them.

Hi Erny

yep i'm planing to ferther my studdies with them as i'm enjoying it so much, i all redy have info on a few of the specialised areas. (might need to moove down their though, the travel is killing me) :D

Even though I know that it is unlikely that any one has done both.....from what you do know, how does it compare to Delta?

Hi Rom

the NDTF seams more informative, and more strict and structured then delta. i have had the privalege to be tought by several delta trained people who work in a verry profecional setting. i persionaly had questions as to the knowlage they where teaching me, and found that whill not entierly correct it was correct in the context but they couldn't brorden it to other areas.

i'm friends with some one who is 3/4 the way through Delta, and she is totaly different to the above. we bounce off idears with each other, and she was amased that their are timed exams with NDTF.

if you want to pm me your email i will send it to her so you can hear what she has to say.

Also pm poodlefan, she has some feelings on delta trained people.
