Rusky
this is so funny. I go to check yours and pampas threads, then I see you are here on mine. :p I am sure all these good vibes are doing lots of good, they are for me anyway, personally I mean, Cindy is ok, she is quiet, she is eating, I give her 4 small meals a day. I don't have to hand feed anymore. The one thing I have noticed and it is silly but she snores very loudly, she always snored a bit but this is big time. I remember well from nursing patients with renal failure that they snored loudly, even on dialysis when they slept. It may be a coincidence, I am not sure. I guess I always thought it was from sedation, maybe it is part of the condition. We can't have her in the room with us which is a bit sad when she needs us. pampa
I'm glad to hear she's eating without assistance which is a good sign... Hopefully her Nephrons are working overtime to repair themselves and tiring her out, thus explaining her loud snoring :p Seriously though, hoping she starts to improve soon. Rusky
I just got a call from the vet regarding my dear old girls condition. I dropped a urine sample in as we have completed a full course of antibiotics to fix the kidney infection which was in fact a side effect of kidney malfunction. The vet told me that he had in fatc recently attended a conference and chronic kidney disease was discussed at length. He feels weighing everything up that the best course of action now is a month on a diet low in phospherous then retest her urine/bloods to see if there is a general improvement. The specific gravity of her urine is still very low though there is now less blood. So diet for a month, then ace inhibitors to increase blood flow is required. I have a problem I can't use prescription diets like hills or Eukanuba ( see my previos posts on the company) I can't, just can't. The vet suggested Royal Canin and I will go off and do a google, he actually said he has no idea why we don't produce our own food here in OZ and I agree. I used to give the dogs dry food which was made in WA but the guy stopped making it. Does anyone know a dry food diet low in phospherous whose company does not have any nasty rumours against it. I can't feed my old goldie her chicken necks or frames or bones or vegetables any more :D But it may help her to feel better
Rappie
Rusky, I can't think of a commercial food low in phosphorous off the top of my head that suits your requirements. However, there is a product available Phosphobind (which as it's name suggests binds to phosphorous) which might be suitable for your situation - it's a meaty flavoured paste that is given with food. It might be worth chatting to your vet about if you're not able to feed a prescription food.

Erny
Hi Rusky :D How's Goldie going? Further tests are coming up, aren't they? I know we shared a PM - was that only yesterday? (Feels like a week ago ) When do you return to the Vet's? Good health thoughts coming your way. :D Edited May 15, 2006 by Erny
mollipop
Hi Rusky Your Cindy looks so much like my old Jessie,a 13yr.old Goldie. She hobbles around like an old woman but eats well and is not on any medication. I think she is slightly demented and pretends to be hard of sight and hearing though she can still hear her dinner bowl being put down and catch a small piece of food if its thrown to her. Sometimes she seems to be a bit incontinent and has wet "feathers" but she is okay at the moment. Everytime I feel she's near the end she bounces back again. I dread the day that she leaves us,especially if I have to make the desicion. Love from Jess to Cindy.
