Looking For Bowen/chiropractor

Recommended Posts

Josh my flat coated retriever has hurt his back leg. Took him for a walk at the local park where he swam, etc. Noticed later in the day at home that he is carrying his back leg. Took him to see George, no help. Three days later he is still carrying his back leg slightly off the ground.

Wondering if anyone knows of a Bowen Therapist that they can recommend who is both reasonable in price and does a good job, or a chiropractor. I live in South Eastern suburbs, Victoria.

Had Tim look at him at Kintala Club and also a vet who trains there. Was not a cruciate ligament. Took him to Tony at Hampton Park and was very impressed. He said that he had torn a hamstring. He was very thorough and told me exactly what he was doing. Also took him to Elizabeth who does Bowen, she said it was a obstructa muscle (i think). When we took him to George earlier in the week, he said it was cuts on the pads. Tony told us to rest Josh for about 10 days, which is okay as I am in Sydney with Moses. I will never take any of my dogs back to George again. I don't know how he could miss that.

I would say it was the 'adductor' that Elizabeth was referring to (sits high, middle, inside the leg) and this felt a bit tight when i saw him on Sat. This is possibly only because he was propping with the leg because of the tear to the hamstring and over using that muscle. A relief that he was increasingly using the leg with time though. He'll be back leaping lakes in a single bound in no time (particularly with all his saved up energy from resting).

George is getting on, heard this from quite a few people. Still a legend for his time though.

Hi ya DB,

Is the George being referred to here the one out in Yuroke? If so, I have undying graitude to him for giving my 2nd Collie an extra few years of life. "Fuzzy" was diagnosed with spinal arthritis (spondolytis???) and given only a few months before she could not walk, she was only 7 at the time. I was advised by both my vet and a specialist to have her PTS but could not do it. I heard about George and took her down, after some preliminary work he advised her spine was twisted, had been so for a long time, and he wasn't sure he could fix it. He worked on her back for a few minutes and I heard an allmighty crack  . It sounded as if her spine was snapped, I kid you not but every Greyhound waiting it's turn wet itself. I have never before and never since heard a dog scream (this was no yelp). Sure it sounds awful but after finishing off with her neck and shoulders, she shook herself and you could see the smile on her face :D . This dog lived another 4 years before old age an gastro took her.

He was "getting on" then, I'm amazed he's still doing his thing. I guess no-ones perfect, you seem to have received different advice from everyone who saw Josh which proves my point IMHO  .

Cheers,

Corine

I am very happy that Josh is okay and it is not cruciate ligament. I was upset that George didn't pick the injury in the rear leg, and instead put it down to tiny little cuts in the pads. As you can see by the other similar threads, Tony, Ray, George, Alex are all different, some work well for some people and others work well for other people. Tony is only 20 minutes away from where I live.

I am in Sydney at the moment and my hubby rang last night and said Josh is back to normal, I told him still to keep resting him and let go for a walk on the lead but no ball chasing. Tony gave Josh an injection to reduce the swelling.
