When Is A Puppy Not A Puppy

My whippet matured very young- she is almost 9 months and can be puppyish at times but is alot more sedate than 3 months ago. I think by 12 months she will be an adult in behaviour, though probably a little more active still.

I think it varies a lot with breed. I was told that my border terrier would be physically mature by 2 and mentally mature by 3.

I think Mac was actually physically mature at a bit earlier than 2, but maybe I missed some changes.

As for mentally mature... YES! When he turned 2 I remember thinking that I must've got a weird-personality border terrier, as he was nothing like an adult dog I had encountered. By the time he was 3, I reflected, and I couldn't believe his change in that one year - he went from full-of-beans to a loving boy. I'm super happy.

Bit of a rant there, but I think it's very much a breed-to-breed and even line-to-line thing. :)

Hi all

I have a 6mth old Border collie and a 7 year old Blue Cattle dog. Lawrence, is more of a puppy than my 6mth old roxy!!!. He constantly wants attention, he loves playing ball EVERY minute of the day, he loves being pampered like a puppy, he loves puppy toys, he loves to do tricks for treats!! he is fantastic. alot of people see him as 3 years old, when i tell them he is 7, they dont believe it!!!
