Staff'n'Toller
The cheapest way to treat demodex is with Dectomax injections. Advocate works if you start treating at the very beginning but many Vets and Specialists have treatment failures on it. Demodex mange mite takes hold on dogs with crappy immune systems so once you have been to the Vet, are treating the problem and have some negative scrapes then look at the food you're feeding, adding supplements and reducing chemicals i.e. spot-ons, flea rinses, Vaccinations and so-on. Aly had the bad itchies and was losing her fur, after posting on here and people said maybe mite etc I too her to vet had scraping for the mite but was none, vet gave me phenergan and Neotopic cream, that eased the itchies, and after reading on here it was suggested maybe her diet had a impact so took her off kibble have her on raw meat and veges now, using the groomers EPO shampoo and you should see her now after a few weeks hair has grown back shes also lost 2 kilos and is so much happier. So what I'm getting at maybe its her diet and not mite.....
saintlysusan
$22 for a consult? OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG Mines a great vet but not cheap at like $48 for consult! If you spend like 2K, they might discount the consult fee to like $40 haha I wish my vet had 1980's prices!
Embellish
Yeah, we charge $44 for a consult at our clinic. That is the norm I think for sydney
sas
There really isn't an option of not taking the dog to the Vet, when it comes to skin complaints it could be anything. Even if the dog has mites they don't always appear on skin scrapings. The Vet is the best person to speak to because then at least they can advise on a course of action.
