Norskgra
30 years ago when I bought my first Old English Sheepdog, Mason and Pearson were the only brushes you would use. Even then they were expensive. I have still got one of them and now it is one of the brushes I use on our Afghan. Do people still use Mason and Pearson brushes? Are You Serious Jo
I have one packed away, my mother had bought two second hand not knowing they were the bees knees of brushes and when I saw them I snaffled them. One disappeared, but still have the other, don't use it right now but am keeping it.
Norskgra
Luckily my old one is still in great condition. I wouldn't buy one these days. They are even more expensive now.

Norskgra
I use mason pearson and love them. I also love them, ES. I must see what it is like on the Elkhounds but I know it is fabulous on the Afghan. I must admit, I guard it with my life at shows!
Firestone
Wouldn't be with out ours. They are the best brushes. We know someone who just got one and it was over a $100.00. Norskgra Posted 7th Mar 2006 - 09:50 AM .................................................I guard it with my life at shows! We took ours to the specialist engineering place near our home and they drilled a hole in the handle of our Mason Pearson and we put a loop through it and a coiled line and attached it to the grooming table. Stays safe then

Mel 45
Uhm... I have a very shiny flat coated breed. However, IMO they are the best brush in the world. Wouldn't be without one, for myself. Didn't realise people with long coated dogs used them but it makes sense.
Norsehaven
Have had mine for over 30 years, both sizes they made a small one that fits into your pocket, it is good to have at the ring side for a quick brush up, Mind you with GSD they do not take out the dead hair, so use a comb from Englad made by Spratts thats a good one as well Jo
griff
Love my Mason Pearson It is over 30 years old and still going strong ! cost me way back then $150.00.... as it was the must have brush when one owned Affies.

Not that many Affie owners use it now at shows, Griff. Most people wouldn't know the difference between a Mason Pearson and other brushes.
cowanbree
I have had mine for years but only really use it on the show dogs as find it doesn’t get through the coat of the desexed pets as well as a slicker. It is very kind to the coat.
Belinda
I too use them ( Collie Roughs) have 1 of each size. Only take 2 to shows though, a pocket for my pocket and a junior which has my name, breed, and phone number engraved on the back. The cheapest place I've found to buy them is Peters of Kensington in NSW. Also use them on an English Setter I had. WONDERFUL for finish.
Nadia
I have several, including 2 that I have had for about 20 years. They are fantastic brushes. I love them. I had one go missing off my trolley at a show once, it had my name on it and I had painted the back, about 12 months later I spotted it on a table in an assembly area, still with my name etc on it. It's home again now!!
ShesaLikeableBiBear
Yes I have two, I remember when I purchased my last one, I ordered it through my hairdresser, well her eyes nearly popped out when I said it was for my dogs.

A lot of people are like that. At first my daughter could not believe how much they were. I let her use it on our Afghan and she loves it too. I will have to see if I can find the others I had, otherwise I will have to buy a couple more.

griff
I remember that my late Aunt Nancy had a Mason Pearson sitting proudly on her dressing table .. I used to brush her hair ( when I was there ) 100 strokes per night just like she had done for many many years
Norskgra
I have never tried one on my hair. The dogs get the good brushes, I get the cheap ones.
Shelby
I also only use Mason & Pearson for the shelties. Am at the moment as I have lost a "special" one. My older boy won it at the Sheltie National in 1995 going reserve challenge. Will hunt around at home but think someone has walked off with it at a show. It had my kennel prefix engraved on the back as well. Peters of Kensington have them at a good price & I also asked at David Jones. They said if I bought in the printed price from Peters, they would match it. Funny, isn't it? How we don't worry about paying out that kind of a money for a brush for our dogs but think twice before buying one for ourselves?? Crazy dog people.
