Sutherland & Peakhurst Training

Recommended Posts

First of all can anyone who goes to Sutherland tell me if they start back this weekend.

Secondly, what are the times and location for Peakhurst?

I have two dogs that I would like to take to training but obviously can't take both at once. Therefore I can take one to Peakhurst on Saturday and one to Sutherland on Sunday.

Peakhurst we go back 4.03.06 lessons start 3.30pm, be there early for vetting, plus if you need to register etc.

Location is Gannons Park, there is an entrace from Robyn St, or you can park at the top of the park near the sports fields and take a walk down the valley (about 10-15 minutes one way)

Look out for the black and tan dobe (in my avatar) and his owner..... you might end up in my class.... how scary

Sorry Busters Mum, I only just saw this. Were you part of the 32 dogs who joined up yesterday?

Yes I was, I have never seen so many dogs in one place :o And yes we had a great time.

I signed both dogs up but as I can only train one at a time I'm not sure what I'll do yet. The one that started yesterday will definitely be continuing at Sutherland.

What happens if you miss a week? Next week we are in Class 1 week 1 but I will be away so will there still be a Class 1 week 1 the following week?

Mrsdog I recognise the dog in your banner, you were the one we had to ask for directions on what instructor to go to so thanks for your help :D

1.on average how many dogs attend?

about 100, thats a wild guess, less if very hot or about to rain

2.how many per class?

depends what level.

Begginers usually 4-5

advanced 10-12

3.how long are the classes?

1hour, you are free to leave earlier if your dog had enough and "lost it"

4.what are the costs?

to join the club $25 for first year (it might be 20 or30 I cant remember) $15 for each year thereafter, plus $2 per each lesson you attend.

5.i presume my pup has to be vaccinated before i can attend? this means at 12 weeks right?

yes bring vaccination certificate with you to be sighted when you join.

You are free to come earlier with the dog and hang around to see what its all aobut and for us to play with the puppy

6.if you start back on 04/03 i might miss the first two weeks as she'll be too young. will this matter much?

No.

Classes are not run as per a tight schedule so you can miss a week, two or a month.

You attend first class untill you are ready to graduate to second, than third etc.

You do it in your time at your pace there is no pressure for you to move up.

Some people go through all classes in a year others dont reach 4th class after 4 years. Its all up to you what you do, we just show you how, direct you and answer any questions you might have.

Busters Mum: Yes, you will be in Class 1, Week 1 next time you go. Doesn't matter if you miss a week or two here and there. Just go to where you are up to next time.

Grading is done every week in Class 1, so you could be graded out at any time. All that is necessary for this grading is that you and your dog have a reasonable idea of the basics. Sometimes a dog has a problem with socialisation, perhaps is a little timid, and in that case it can be a good idea to keep him in 1 for a little longer.

It is always better to go at your own pace.

Any questions, please ask, I'll try to answer.

  • 2 weeks later...
post-9246-1140568032_thumb.jpgCan anyone come along to the Peakhurst training, or is it for purebreed dogs only (like this website)? I've got a 15 week old LabxGolden Retriever that I'd like to bring along to training at Peakhurst as we live nearby. She's very good at sit, drop, shake hands and 'give that shoe back now you little monster' already, but the socialising should be fun! Do I need to register first somewhere else or can I just turn up at Gannons Park on the first Saturday afternoon I have free (probably mid-March)?

Trinka - any breed, any colour, any size dogs are welcome.

Arrive about 45 minutes before the lesson starts to sign up, pay membership etc. Bring vaccination certificate with you.

After you have been issued a name tag go through vetting, line up for class.

Im the tall female instructor, ponny tail, strong accent. See you there.
