Pets At Peace In Canberra

Just wanted to add a post singing the praises of Pets at Peace.

I'm currently dogsitting for my neighbours and, unfortunately, on Saturday night one of their beloved dogs was bitten by a snake and passed away.

As I'm sure you can all imagine, this was an incredibly traumatic time for these people and as they are not returning until next week something had to be organised very quickly. I rang Tony from Pets At Peace in Canberra the following day, he came out and picked her up that night and allowed me to put some photos and a 'lolley trolley' with her, as her owners had wished. He was so polite and respectful, he made the whole situation a lot easier to deal with and although money is not an issue when it comes to pets, the service is very affordable.

I would like to say a big thank you to Tony for offering a much needed service, and although obviously it is not a 'service with a smile' business, he was just wonderful. I recommend them highly, and urge anyone faced with such a dreadful situation to make use of the service.

I use Pets a Peace in Orange - Shane is fantastic

I do pet sitting and he told me that if anything ever happens to the pets i am looking after - he will look after them until the owners come home and deside what to be done

We got our old boy done through them - can not give them any more praise if i tried!! Fantastic, wonderfull people - When Shane brought my boy home he spent 30 mins on the floor playing with my cats, they LOVED him.

It is good to have someone you like looking after your last wishes for you babies

I used them in Sydney and cannot sing their praises high enough either. They were wonderfully compassionate when they came to pick up my darling girl when she passed away over 6 years ago now and returned with the urn containing her ashes along with a red rose.

However, the most wonderful thing they did for me was replace the urn containing her ashes a couple of years ago, after my exhuberant current male lab who was about 3 at the time accidentally smashed it. I had placed my girl's urn onto my bed when I was dusting her memorial bookcase and was devastated when my boy bounded onto my bed and knocked the urn onto the floor and it smashed and spilled her ashes onto the floor. They replaced the urn free of charge and were just so great in getting this organised as I was so heartbroken when it was smashed.

We used Shane for my beloved boy in November. Great service and very compassionate. He was a little amused at our approach to it all though, my partner was un undertaker and embalmer for 13 years so H (the dog) was already in a bodybag ready to go when he arrived...we had a nice chat and compared notes on the human vs dog funeral industry...I'll give you a tip, the dog peopel are far more ethical hehehe!

My boy is Zues, and my friends dogs are Miss Conner and Taya - all 3 are on the card

(the card he sent out was dogs from our obedience club)

Marilyn and Tony from Canberra are fantastic :p

When my Princess was sadly put to sleep on the 1st December 2003, I was heart broken. Marliyn came to collect my beloved French Bulldog that afternoon. Mimi was laying in her bed in the bedroom, just as she had always done. I was going to carry her out to the car wrapped in a sheet ( not sure what other people would think of a deceased dog ), Marilyn told me that I could leave her uncovered as she looked so peacefull and beautiful.

I could not believe that a stranger would take the time to talk to me about my dog but also patted her as well, maybe she just has great skills in making people feel better during these sad times, but to me she cared more than I would have ever expected.

My Princess came home to me after our holiday, to sleep beside the bed again. I only wish I could find the right place and the right time to scatter her ashes.

Edit: had to change a few words as tears do not help the typing process

Warley,

Know how you feel about the ashes. I have the ashes of 4 dogs and 2 cats in their little urns in the house.

I want them all to be combined with mine.

Hope you feel better.

Thanks for the thoughts :p

She has been gone quite a while now but on the weekend i found my new Princess ( in Pug form )

I didn't think that there would ever be another dog like her, but this little girl is just as naughty and full of herself as Mimi ever was. I think she'll do nicely as the new delinquent in the house. :p This new Pug is my constant shaddow and is asleep at my feet now.

I know the special ones can never be replaced but this little girl is destined to become another one :o

Thankfully, I've only needed the services of Pets at Peace once. I can't thank them enough...it was a busy time of year (just after Xmas) when Aussie passed and they were wonderful.

I work at the RSPCA in Canberra and we refer ppl to PAP. The shelter uses them too for all the "shelter pets", that is, the ones that cannot be rehomed in the usual way...they become shelter pets and live out their days with us. We have three cats ATM. The shelter lost its dog in December, and the ashes are at reception along with another shelter dog that was PTS a few years earlier. I'm looking forward to us having another shelter dog at some stage...

It's a difficult time and PAP just seem to know what we are going through. They made Aussie's loss a little easier to cope with.

I too have found Tony and Marilyn to be wonderful at that awful time. I had a very pleasent chat over the phone to Marilyn about Twiggy after they picked her up from the vets. She chatted about how lovely Whippets were and their experiences. Tony has been the one to deliver the ashes and alwaygives you some time, you never feel rushed. Both my girls urns are sitting on the shelf behind me, the big and the small :D

I certainly hope I dont have to use their services again any time soon though....
