toby lever
hi guys, do you have any tips or anything on how to keep my boys breath smelling nice!
Hazz
Brush their teeth - I use a finger brush and doggy toothpaste - cinnamon and Tea tree, You can find these items at any good pet store. Also the tea tree will get rid of any nasty bacteria too
glorybea
hi, I went to rthe vet because of bad breath it was an infection doesn't always mean teeth so if brushing does't help as suggested try your vet But the first is cheaper Good luck Glory
White Shepherd mom
toby, do you feed bones? They are excellent for cleaning dog teeth. My two are over 4yo and still have white teeth and no smelly breath because they get bones often. Can I ask what you feed your dog?
ShesaLikeableBiBear
Have you seen the St.Francis range of dental products, they have a cinnamon and tea tree toothpaste and a Fresh Breath Spray

curlygirl
Sometimes when the dogs anal glands are full the dogs breath can really smell (because the dog licks its bum), so it might pay to express the anal glands. If they are full empty them each week for a couple of weeks, then just do them fortnightly or monthly.
t-time
Add chopped parsley to your dog's diet

ShesaLikeableBiBear
re Anal Glands, they often walk on their bottoms (scoot), most people think it is worms. NOW if you think doggy breath is bad I will WARN you once stay away from trying to express anal glands unless you want to pass out-LOL. I usually get mine done annually on yearly visits to the vet, but if you notice the scooting and you know you have wormed then this could be the problem. Muttaburra
Better to leave the anal glands alone. If there is a problem then have checked with the vet. It is not recommended to repeatedly drain them.

White Shepherd mom
Does the dog in question show any signs of having anal gland problems, ie scooting or always trying to attack his bottom? If the answer is no, I'm not sure I would be heading down the anal gland route at all.
BasTyra
I'd also recommend feeding bones. Griever's breath doesn't smell at all since I started feeding him chicken necks.
curlygirl
Sorry I was going on my experience as a dog owner and vet nurse (registered), not all dogs "attack" thier bums when their anal glands are full. Just ask your vet to ckeck them next time you take the dog in for anything. I'm sure the vet will do it for you and explain how its done. cleo
Apart from the scooting, when the anal glands are full they will sometimes leak. And the stench is nothing you have smelled before. When I first caught a wiff of it whilst driving pass Geelong, I thought it was the Shell refinery putting out noxious gas into the air
