Puppy Teeth

Could just be the pic, they look a little inflamed is all.

Nothing a shot of peno wont fix.

The Vet will look after you, plenty of "show" dogs have their teeth fixed. Not too unusual.

Of course the gums look a bit inflammed. This is a 5 month old pup that is no doubt teething, why on earth would you want to give a shot of "peno" - by which I assume you mean penicillin- when teething unless it is conclusively shown there is some bacterial infecion which needs controlling?

know quite a few breeders in the UK and probably here too that in a situation like this will actually cut the top of the tooth off. This does not cause pain to the pup, in fact quite the contary as it removes the piece of the tooth sticking into the gum. It also makes the tooth die off earlier and hence loosen and it comes out sooner than it would otherwise.

( Gulp

You are joking right? These are milk teeth. Just whip them out without even comtemplating that cockeyed "solution".

Anyhow you are at the vet now.

Hope it's all good news.

Well we are back and it is good news...I think....my vet said that if he had of seen them sticking into the gums when it first happened he would have pulled them out to save some discomfort, but seeing that she is actually 19 weeks old today and the canines fall out between 19-23 weeks, he expects them to fall out pretty soon. He also said that she has a good bite and that the new adult ones are most likely pushing the baby canines up, causing it to move in the wrong direction and pierce the top gum. If it was bleeding, infected etc. he would have removed them, but says that she isn't showing any real signs of discomfort when touched or when she is eating, so for her sake she is best left alone for now. If they havent fallen out after xmas, he said to bring her back and he'll have another look because they made need pulling then, but fingers crossed that those adult teeth are coming up normal and it will be better. Oh and it was no charge either! :mad

Will do! Thanks for everyone's help and advice. I am heading back to the breeder after xmas, so I am hoping her bite will be good by then and I can get the OK to start showing her, here's hoping there isn't another problem!
