I would hate to think of the mischief that he and Mallee would get into if they ever met!!....lol....BTW thanks for your post in the photo section - we had such a great time and it was just fantastic to see Mallee really enjoy life... Well she is home and feeling very sore and sorry. She cried most of last night, and when she was not crying whimpered. I felt like such a bi**h for putting her through it but its best in the long term. She still has not had anything to drink or eat so thats a bit odd but hopefully today while Brock is home he wil be able to get something into her... I still panic when Chloe bolts up the steps 2 or 3 at a time!!! Poor Mallee, hopefully she will start to pick up during today... I remember Chloe being very active and us constantly trying to slow her down... however it was a long time ago so the memory is a bit vague. I would assume that it's fairly natural for her to be a bit worse for wear. You should see an improvement today and everyday. When she's feeling better she will start eating again, don't worry. She is a lucky girl to have doting daddy at home with her all day!!! Don't feel guilty, desexing had to be done and it's nothing compared to what she's been through before... Give a big kiss and cuddle to the patient from Aunty Kel and Cousin Chlo-Bo and tell her she's a brave girl. And try to stop worrying!!!! (easier said than done I know!!). Nice to hear from you, I've been flat out Christmas shopping... feels like it never ends???? I too hope that you have a wonderful Christmas along with Brock and Mallee Moo!! Hope Santa Dog is kind to Mallee and brings her special pressies as her first 'well' Christmas!! There are two big pressies under the tree for Chloe she is very spoilt this year.... a custom made collar and matching lead with her name in diamontes (what a princess ), and some very special fluffy squeaky toys that she will love!! Oh there could have been more but I restrained myself... Hmmmm I wonder what Santa Dog is bringing the other lucky pooches on this thread????? Hope they have been as good as Chloe!!! Below are some lovely pics my sister found of Chloe as a baby girl.... if these don't give you a warm fuzzy feeling for Christmas I don't know what will!!! I too hope everyone has a really lovely Christmas, and all the best wishes for a fantastic 2007... This time last year we were sick with worry, stress and any other negative feeling you could imagine... and now... doggies are well, and our wishes came true!!! Have a great one all... We had a really bad storm one night that scared the bejesus out of me though, tents and tall trees don't always mix. I've done a fair bit of fishing on the bottom lake, caught some flying Gurnards there once - a very strange fish which croaks in the water like a frog. Nothing like working in a resort for keeping you busy at Christmas/New Year .. Bouf & I are re-starting training next Sunday. He is so so happy & bouncy. He & Axle wrestle & play for hours & hours & hours. His tail now sweeps the picnic table clear .. & I thought he must have grown EVEN more ( eekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk ) .. but as my sister pointed out, it's probably just that he's standing straight now that both hind legs are muscled up & he has no pain. She was waiting inside for me to come home from work and danced around wildly when I got home... all was okay until she heard my dad flick the lock on the front door, and she thought someone was coming in, so she took off like a shot to the front door. It would have been okay if she had kept running through the carpeted lounge room, but for some reason she changed directions and sped off through the laundry to get to the front door... Poor buggers front legs went one way, and back legs the other... She almost held it together, and i could see her poor old back legs scrabbling to keep her up and keep going before they just collapsed under her. I think at that point I almost fainted whilst diving for her to try and keep her up. She got up and kept going towards the front door, but was skipping on it and holding it up. I panicked and assumed the worst, but I felt it thoroughly and it all felt normal. I was so relieved, even though she did keep it up for a while afterwards... but looking back now it was probably just jarring. It has been a bit tender, but she seems okay and I can't feel any abnormalities in it, apart from the bumpy arthritis!!! And believe me, I check her legs so constantly that I'd know the first sign of anything 'not quite right'!!! Hehehhehe. Oh boy it was a huge scare... probably the first serious one we've had since her ops... but thankfully all is well now. It was the leg that she has never been as confident on and doesn't use as much as her other and it always was her worst leg, but geez it makes you worry doesn't it??? I guess we've just resigned ourselves that our bionic dogs will always be 'special' in a worrisome sort of way!!! Gotta love them... I went to give her a cuddle after dinner and she was lying in the breeze watching me hopefully (in case I brought table scraps!!), and I realised just how old my girl is getting. Her face just seemed a bit greyer, or could have just been the light... quite sad really... I wouldn't know what to do without her... Big 9 years this year. ( Don't think that this sign is actually meant to mean what I know you & I & other CL veterans will interpret it as .. ) Bouf & I returned to training after 7 months' absence last Sunday. I have done nothing with him in that time & am just going back for safe socialisation more than anything else. I know the dogs & the owners & Jacquie, the trainer, came with me to Murdoch to hold my hand on our first diagnosis visit. I know he can mix with dogs off lead & every-one will understand why I stop "rough play" between my huge bloke & a delightful agile Rottie when they are obviously having so much fun together. The class Iwent back to is the Advanced ( I wanted to go back to "Novice" but Jacquie scoffed ) & everyone else is aiming for Competitition Obedience .. which we're obviously never going to achieve in the ring .. though we do meet all the behaviour standards. Jacquie had sent me the notes for the previous class which said that in Competition Obedience at the Sit the dog's paws must be in line with the owners feet. When we first lined up, I looked down & realised that because of Bouf's CL sprawling sit, all 4 of his paws were in line with my feet .. whereas all the other dogs only had their 2 front paws lined up. I pointed this out to Jacquie with a deadpan face .. she rolled her eyes & said " always one smarta** " in every class" .. but told me later that one of the newer members who didn't know Bouf's history had asked her afterwards if she was meant to be getting her shepherd to present all 4 paws in line. Poor woman .. she also thought I'd just joined out the blue & was really discouraged .. lucky she did ask so Jacquie could explain that Bouf & I had been to training for 2 years solid before the op. Bouf was (sorry BRAG BRAG ) so brilliant. The newish member in the class was at the other end of the line so Jacquie told me to lead off with the "Recall"" .. I had to ask her to remind me what I had to do. Bouf remembered .. Bouf sat .. he waited .. I walked off the length of the arena & turned round .. he was still sitting .. called him & he lolloped straight to me & sat (as upright as he can) straight in front .. & still sat whilst I walked round him .. Jacquie gave a great holler when we finished .. 1st time she's seen him move since the op. He heeled, he downed with none of the reluctance , he had so much fun & was so much more alert. We're just going to mosey along each fortnight .. I get such a buzz out of the bond holding strong even amongst the distractions. Well don't feel bad about bragging Bilby, you have every right!! Plus we love to hear it!!! Bouf has been a real star, congrats!! I had to have a giggle about the whole back legs lining up with the front... no matter how many ops they have, they just can't shake that slouch!!! Tell tale sign of a CL bionic dog... just makes 'em special I think!!! Good on Bouf, his CL family are proud!!! Pity Chloe wasn't as obedient... she zoomed out the front today and bailed up a young boy who was talking to mum... lucky he is a family friend!!! Come on Antoinette, tell us how your hols went and how Mallee Moo is doing!!! I tried to put on pics of Chloe from my phone but failed miserably due to not being able to install software (stinky home computer). I bet Chloe gave herself a bit of a scare also. The little buggers still seem to think they are invincible at times hey!! God knows Mallee does!! You are good at trying to make me tear up aren’t you Kel - when you were speaking about poor little Chlo Boo going grey and life without her - WOW - that’s too hard to imagine hey, they way these bloody creatures get under you skin and into your hearts is unbelievable at times, the bonds you develop - even more so when they have relied on you for a time……..i wish those days of saying goodbye never had to come, but that’s life hey. Special hugs to the beautiful Chloe. Well, I hope everyone had a great Christmas and that News Years was enjoyed by all. Heres to 2007 being a fantastic year for all with lots of doggy success and happy smiling pooches and owners. Bilby that’s fantastic about the charmer Bouf, back at obedience, wooing over all the lady dogs with his fine obedience skills. Such a great come back from a bad last year. We have been toying with the idea of taking Mallee back to obedience, but must admit that it is my insecurities and fears stopping her from going back, I would just hate for something to go wrong or for her to hurt herself. But I think it should be done for the social side of things for her. Just need to bite that dam bullet I suppose. We had a great break away, went home to Mallacoota and spent Christmas with family and friends. Mallee experienced the beach and surf for the very first time and loves it……Run for a dog that we were told would never run again she sure did a good job at it, chasing all the little swallows all over the beach, jumping in the waves, she even went swimming with Brock in the ocean. It was just fantastic to see. Sometimes I tend to forget that what she has been through not only effected Brock and myself. The first morning there we took her for a walk down to the surf beach, first walk of the holiday, with my mum and dad, and my mum burst into years at the sight of Mallee enjoy herself running around off lead like a goose, chasing sand flies, and anything else that moved. It was just so great to see, and pretty special. All in all she is turning out to be quite ordinary, and if truth be known probably now leads much more of an active life than a lot of able body dogs out there. I know for a fact she is much fitter than all the dogs in Brock's family which is kind of sad in a way. Anyway I must fly and do some work, I will try to add some pics when I have some free time. Yes I think Chloe really did scare herself, although the determined bugger kept on going!!! Sorry for making you tear up, but I had to mention it cause it really shocked me yesterday. She just looked old, much older than usual. Sometimes we forget they are getting older... Most of the time, like Mallee, she looks and acts so boisterous like a dog that hasn't been through what she has... and there are others when she is quiet when I realise just how old she is getting and how her injuries, ops and recovery have taken a slight toll on her. But she is happy and healthy and getting around better than ever, so I can't complain. It just makes me sad sometimes... I have never had such an intense connection to a dog, although they have all been special. Not a day goes by when she doesn't bring me a whole load of absolute joy... I'm so glad that you guys, and Mallee, had such a great time!!! She really is living the good life now isn't she? Holidays at lovely places and getting to experience so many different experiences... She sure is lucky!!! I must start taking Chloe to some nice places, it's just a worry getting her in and out of the car... she is too heavy for me to lift and I would be too scared to have her jump in and out, although she'd be up for it for sure!!! She is still scared stiff of the doggy ramp... For a dog that didn't have much hope, Mallee is doing very well. Some people think that ops are not the way to go, but Mallee is a living example that sometimes it IS worth the effort and $$$. Her life could have been very different otherwise (and not so enjoyable and active). Can't wait to see more pics... hopefully some action shots of her swimming and being a normal doggy!!! First one is the anticipation of Christmas... look at that excited widdle face!! Second one, destroying the christmas bells by eating them off her legs... Spoilt sport!!! Third one is ripping open the gifts... Yaay it's present time!!! I've never seen a dog who loves pressies so much!!! And after intense playing with new toys she is pooped....
