What Every Dog Owner Fears

Recommended Posts

well, as some of you know, last thursday, we noticed a fairly big lump on jennas rear end.

on friday morning we had a biosopsy done...

on sat morn, on our way to spend 2 nights away....i got the call on m y mobile....

I can't tell you guys a lot of the what the vet said, as i was very traumatised at the time....

Jenna my old dog of nearly 14 years, has CANCER, a non operative type, a nasty one....she could go another few years yet, or she could go very soon...they can't tell me any answers, but to keep her as happy as we can, for the time being.

We have just got back, we will be seeing the vet in person tomorrow, tues. to clarify what type of cancer she has ect.....they told me but i just cant remember anything, other than what i have written here.

ive had a feeling couple months ago, something was up and was very wrong, she was trying to tell m e in her doggy way and was very clingy and i just knew something was seriouly wrong, then and there.

shes not in lot of pain that we know of, but she is very sleepy and sad and depressed, and lifeless, no matter what we do with her....when we got joey she seemed to come to life for a bit, but now she's back to her normal quiet sleepy self.

i have never known my jenna like this, i know her to be a typical heeler x, full of vitality and spirit...

shes had bad athritis over last few years but its been treatable...i thought that was what would be the worse thing to live out her old life with... i never imagined she would have cancer....

she was originally from the animal welfare league and she had two days left before she was to be put down, she was less than 11 months old then! AND i didnt realise this at the exact time, i spotted her and feel in love with her, but i saved her, just in time!!!!

anyway we have just gotten home, and are trying to come to grips with this sudden tragic news :hitself:

I'm so sorry to hear your news. If only our puppies could live forever. I'm assuming you won't be going for chemo given how old Jenna is (I wouldn't recommend anyway) but there are many natural, non invasive treatments for Cancer. These range from special diets, boosting your dogs immune system, herbal treatments and although I'm a sceptic at heart i have heard of people having success with things like crystal and colour therapy as part of the treatment. I recently lost a dog to Cancer, she too was around 14years old. The tumor they found during surgery was completely inopperable and so big that the vet told us not to bother coming back to have her stitches taken out because she wouldn't live that long.

Using the above treatments our girl lived nearly three months. The vet asked to examine her after she had passed away and was shocked to find that the tumor had actually shrunk quite a bit!

Many people here have had experiences with Cancer treatments on their own dogs, both traditional and holistic, so I definately recommend a search of the forum.

I highly recommend a book called "The nature of animal healing" to everyone, especially people who have a pet with Cancer. It is written by a quallified Vet called Martin Goldstein who uses mostly holistic treatments and specialises in Cancer. His clinic, Smith Ridge, has the highest recovery rate from Cancer in the world, I believe.

I have another book called "why is Cancer killing our pets" by Deborah Straw but I have not read it yet so I don't know what it is like.

Hugs for you all

OMG! my sweet jenna I'm so sorry, u must be in shock to hear those words even tho u had the feeling.

You have been wonderful to Jenna & she knows it, u saved her life at a young age & have given her a joyfull life from the sounds of it.

My heart goes out to u, what happens is meant to be even th that sounds unfair. Enjoy the time u have together as she still has alot to offer & so have u to her.

I've been through the same thing a couple of times over the years.

Each time the news is devistating. It's so hard being left with the decision of weather to have them PTS or try treatment especially on an older dog.

I'm sure Jenna would trust any decision you made for her and would know you'd do what's best.

All the best. I'll be thinking of you.

I'm so sorry MSJ, what terrible news.

Hopefully the time she has left is measured in years and months. Just love her and make sure her last memories are good ones - all her memories are sure to be good anyway, I know how much you love her!

Thinking of you.

Oh MSJI am so sorry to hear such terrible news :o I lost my first dog to cancer and I know there is nothing that I can say that could even slightly take the pain away :hitself:

You, Jenna and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Treasure the time you have left and remember the good times you have already shared.

 to you and the fur-kids.

i am so sorry to hear about jenna.

A similar thing happened to my family dog a couple of years ago and it was so sad. I went out and bought him a deboned chicken when i heard the news.

I guess all you can do now is keep spoiling jenna and treasure whatever time you have left with her.

Julie-Anne, I don't know what to say.

Jenna has had such a long life full of your love and devotion. What a lucky girl she has been. Now is the time to spoil her a little more.

I don't know what might help and what not but I wanted to send you this link for a diet for dogs with cancer, if you want to try it: http://b-naturals.com/Jun2004.php and

I am devastated at your news and my thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. Be strong for your girl but also make sure you look after yourself.

Hugs :confused::rofl:

I'm so sorry to hear that.

I don't know what else to say but do treasure every extra second of time you have with her.

When we thought Mick was going to go last last year, it was soul destroying but I think that every day he's with me now, is a bonus.

I'm so sorry

A lady on the malamute board I am a member of had similar news that her malamute had anal gland cancer. She did the operation to remove the cancer and then consulted Dr Martin Goldstein regarding holistic treatmet. The last post I saw was all good news so this might be worth looking into? I can put you in contact with her if you would like?

PM me if you want me to get her email address so you can talk to her
