I wrote this for the best dog there has ever been. Hope you all like it

When God Rounds Up His Sheep

When God rounds up his sheep,

he’ll need a black and white.

But not just any dog,

he’ll want a dog to do it right!

And while there’s heaps of pups to choose from,

he’ll want to pick the best.

So he’ll pick the perfect dog.

The perfect dog called Jess.

On Earth she was my best friend,

love twinkling in her eyes.

With intelligence unbeaten,

And a quietness that belied

the never questioning devotion,

and the total lack of fear,

unfaltering obedience,

and a desire to be near.

Thousands of k’s we travelled,

with her always at my side.

Until in Cairns she finally faltered,

and in Cairns she finally died.

She lies now on a cane farm,

amidst the drenching rains.

Dreaming of merinos,

on the dusty western plains.

And when my boy asks me; “Who’s that dog

that sits in the photo frame?”

I’ll tell him, “Son that puppy dog,

is the dog that is to blame,

for you daddy learning how to love,

no matter what you do.

And I wish that she was here right now,

so she could teach you too.”

So when God rounds up his sheep,

by his side there will be Jess.

Devoted to her master,

never giving him duress.

And one day I’ll come to find her,

when on Earth my life will end.

And united we will travel,

once again with my best friend.

Yeah I did write it myself. Us border collie people are nearly as smart as our dogs!

Everything in it is true. I used to be a PE teacher in the middle of NSW and she used to come to school, to classes, sport carnivals..etc. She was like my child (but a very well behaved one), and the only time there was stress was that she liked to stand between the pitcher and the batter in softball lessons and try and catch the ball. She got sick very quickly and died in Cairns but has a beautiful black granite tombstone with gold embossing that looks over the Behana Gorge in Cairns.
