Staffyluv Posted December 14, 2005 Author Share Posted December 14, 2005 He is home after his first chemo today... At the moment he seems fine, he is happy and his usual wriggly self... He has had a scotch finger biscuit (I know bad treat) and a drink of water... He is getting lots of attention from everyone and quite enjoying it... I spoke with the Holistic specialist in Sydney today (our HV is more into homeopathy, not herbs and has recommended the Sydney Vet)... They can help with his immune system and feeling sick from the chemo... (which does not seem to have happened yet) The only thing I am worried about now is the dog sitter that is coming to stay with him for 5 days over Christmas.. dogbesotted Posted December 14, 2005 Share Posted December 14, 2005 (edited) Staffyluv, If you get lots of meds for Ollie ( Like I have for Lucinda) you may find he gets very good at sieving his food with his front teeth and popping the pills etc out "phut" all over the place. I now give all Lucindas meds hidden in chicken wings..make a slit in the top part and pop a pill in , then lower down and pop in another one. For a herbal mix I make a big pocket in the fleshy part of the wing and put the powder in there. Works well. Staffyluv Posted December 14, 2005 Author Share Posted December 14, 2005 Thanks Helen, We have: Vit C 2 x 500mg daily Macrolene 2.5 once a day (goes with the chemo) Conium drops - once a day (for the lymph glands) Caucinosin drops - once a week (for the cancer) He has chemo once a week for 2 weeks then 1 week off... The chemo drugs he is on are: Week 1,4,7,10 etc - Vinblastine Week 2 CCNU and Lomustine Week5,8,11 etc - just CCNU He also has Ignatia drops when required - these are for when he is really down... We haven't got any herbs yet but we will have by next week. I think they are planning on stuff for his tummy (because the chemo can give him tummy ulcers) and stuff so he does not feel sick (just in case) and more stuff for the cancer... He is such a good boy, if I show him a treat and say 'you have to have this first', most of the time I just have to give it to him and he takes it - no putting it down his throat... pampa Posted December 14, 2005 Share Posted December 14, 2005 I'm so glad to hear Ollie's first treatment was not too dreadful on him and that he is "his usual wiggly self"... Let's hope it stays that way. Don't worry for the days you are away at Christmas, his health issues will be fine, the baby-sitter will get by OK and it will just be the usual seperation heartache of you both that will be the issue, and that would have been the case had he been ill or not :rolleyes: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Staffyluv Posted December 17, 2005 Author Share Posted December 17, 2005 Ollie is good... Much better than I expected (then again, not really sure what I expected)... He is back to having a walk every morning and we go for 15 minutes to half an hour - that seems to be all he wants to do, so I don't push him... He had a bit of a run this morning... He is hungry all the time.. I must remember to ask the vet about that when I take him back on Tuesday for his blood test (next chemo is on Wednesday)... His sitter called in today (we are going away for 5 days over Christmas) and she spent some time with him... I was worried about leaving him, but after seeing her with him today I feel so much better... She was asking all sorts of questions about his medication and how he is feeling, she even wanted to know how to take his temperature (just so she knows)... He does not have any chemo while we are away, which is great... Thanks for asking, it is great to have someone to talk to about it... I'm also glad you are feeling relieved about the carer... I'm sure she'll do a great job in your absence. Try and have a nice relaxing break and look after YOURSELF whilst on holiday. Taking the temp is good for MCT patients as if histamines are rampaging there will be a temperature..we battled for 6 months to get Lucindas temp down to almost normal. It was still OK for him to have his second lot of chemo today... Vet said that he will have to be watched really close and his temp checked a couple of times a day to make sure he does not get an infection of any kind... Bless him, he has given us his mobile phone number and said call at anytime day or night... Even Christmas day - he said from experience, if pooches get sick, it is usually on a holiday... Ollie seems well this week.. We have had really good walks every morning (at least a coupld of KM's), except for today, he was a bit tired after only a KM... I don't push him at all to exercise, I just let him walk as far as he wants then I put him in the car and take him home... The small tumours that were on his side, seem to have gone. The one on his rump is still there but definitely smaller... The vet said that is the results that we want to see...So that is really good news... We received the parcel from the holistic vet in Sydney... He has to take: 5 Mushroom drops - twice a day Omega three Fish oil supplement once a day AntiOx once a day Lymphodran once a day All this on top of the chemo, 2 lots of other drops, Vit C and his Macrolene... Staffyluv Posted January 4, 2006 Author Share Posted January 4, 2006 (edited) A quick update: Ollie had his 3rd chemo yesterday and is doing really well... His blood work came back with good white blood cell counts... All lumps that were visible, now appear to be gone and cannot be felt at all... He is a little slower than he used to be and our walks are not as long, but taking him for a walk is still my favourite time of the day... Hubby had some portraits taken and framed of Ollie for me for Christmas (I will put them in the photo section as soon as I get the disc)... They are so lovely, I bawled my eyes out when I unwrapped them on Christmas eve... dogbesotted Posted January 4, 2006 Share Posted January 4, 2006 Way to go Ollie lad! So pleased to hear that all is going well. I always have the MCT doggies tucked in my heart. WBC in the normal range is terrific. It is normal for him to be tired, there is a battle going on in his body. In my experience they pick up quite a bit when they get back into balance. Lucinda certainly did. Altho now she does get tired more easily ( started to slow down two years after dx). She has another lump now that has started to grow...and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is not another MCT. Have chosen to do nothing as Lucinda reacts very very badly to stress and surgery...and as there were no clean margins with the first tumour I feel there is little to gain stressing her even more. What a wonderful Christmas pressie....I keep taking heaps of pics of my guys...the more the better. Sending Ollie many healing tumour shrinking thoughts.
