New Obedience Trial Changes

Just read in gsd quarterly proposed changes for obedience trials. Can anyone tell me in the optional exercise in Novice class, what a change of position involves ?

Also, in Open, what the distance control would involve ?

Novice

The dog to promptly respond to the Handlers Command ‘Down’ given from a distance.

Description of Exercise:

The Judge must order the Handler to take up position with the dog standing at heel.

On order from the Judge, the Handler may give a command to stay and will move forward

until the Judge commands the Handler to about turn and halt. The Handler will be halted

approximately 3 metres from the dog. On order from the Judge, the handler will command

the dog to “Down”.

The dog must remain steadily in the down position until after the Judge orders ‘Return’

(Return to your Dog) where upon the Handler will return to the dog. The dog must remain in

the down position until after the Judge has ordered “Exercise Finished”

Principal Feature:

The dog to stand where left and respond to the handler’s commands given from a distance.

Description of Exercise:

On order “Take up Position” the handler will stand the dog in a position previously indicated by

the Judge.

On further order from the Judge the handler may give a command to stay and move forward

approximately five (5) metres. The judge will order the handler to about turn and halt. On

separate order and specific order or signal from the judge in each case, the handler will give

the command to ‘Down’, ‘Sit’, to Come and to Finish.

I have been out of the "trial scene"( I used to Judge Novice Class until I got sick) for awhile so does anyone know what the exercises will be for the Encouragement or whatever they will be calling it?

The exercise for each dog and the maximum points shall be:

1. Heel on Lead 30

2. Stand for Examination on lead 10

3. Recall 20

4. 1 min Sit Stay 20

5. 2 min Down Stay 20

TOTAL 100

Less penalty for misbehaviour.

Ok ive always wondered this what justifies a brisk ppace i like my dogs to run but i thinks its soemthing like the speed they do in the fast pace of heeling

when I was Judging "brisk pace" was a bit faster than normal pace but not as fast as fast pace.depends on the exercise really.

Thanks for the infor on the CCD- now have something to aim for; can't train at the moment as young Phoebe came into season today

If novice will no longer include on lead, will the off lead stand for exam be hands on or remain just a walkaround?

no off lead stand for exam is the same as open but you dont go as far and you have the option of a down at a distance or retrieve on the flta

remeber this has not been completey finalised the new rule book will be out soon

thansk inspector i reemebr years aog thinking how can a dog get a great score on drop on recall when it barelt trotted in speaking with a judge he sad pretty much the same as you

Still say they should at least me moving almost at a canter pretty easy to get a good drop when they dawdle in lol

Geeze Yogi, my sparty wouldnt know a "brisk pace" in the obedience ring if it jumped up and bit him!!! after lying down for a snooze in the recall last trial!! LOL it is so different with Bodie there are skid marks in front of me after the recall he comes in so fast!!!

u going to werribee trial??? lol i am, i had organised to go herding was getting ready to get up 6am to go early then remembered the trial DOH!!! supposed to rain saturday, so im stuffed! For a ballarat dog sparty has a strange aversion to rain

where can I go and get a look at all the rule changes? Will you be able to go straight into novice or have to do the CCD first?

Thanks. I may have to think of having a go with Piper. The stand for exam was always going to beat me so I didn't try.

I am planning on trialling next year with the new rules in place. I am going to go in the class before Novice.

m waiting with Bodie for new year, want to concentrate on sparty the slug dog until then who is trying to crwl under my chair atm due to rain & thunder.. not good with the same forecast for saturdays trial!!!
