Erny
What breed of dog, and what temperament does the dog have, Yogi? I would expect the lowest stim on a remote trainer would be ok - probably just enough to get an ear flick. We used one for a client at training (on his deaf dog). The use he applied it for, however, was as a cue to look at him (for distance work) so he could then give a hand signal command. HR and/or K9 would probably have some good input to add here. Erny
It could wear a vibrating mobile phone and you could ring him. Sorry, couldn't resist. I haven't heard of a collar that simply vibrates - not to say there isn't one ... I just haven't had the need to go looking to find out. Good idea, though. I trust it has already been marketed and is available. Have you googled?

Herr Rottweiler
I've trained plenty of deaf dogs before but I haven't used a vibrating collar. The concept is very usable though for incorporating focus or recall once the dog is conditioned to understand what you want. It's amazing how quickly deaf dogs pick up on training. Steve K9Pro
K9: I understand your club concern with stim collars, however, many dogs that I have tested, probably 80% plus fear the vibration of the collars, it takes a considerable amount of time to get them over the feeling before they can work with the collar, they train much easier with a stim collar. The stim is adjustable, the vibration isnt...

The stim is adjustable, the vibration isnt... That's a good point. But trying to convice the VCA to allows the use of an e-collar could be near on impossible. I guess the other possibility is that the person with this dog joins a high standard non VCA affiliated club (one that has the capability of dealing with a 'special needs' dog such as this). Steve K9Pro
Yes or ask the VCA to provide another solution that will work....

Steve K9Pro
You can also put a hankerchief or similar under the reciever between the dogs neck to dampen vibration, but if your try both stim & vibration, you will see that every dog will prefer the stim... ~Anne~
Hi Yogi, I'd suggest a look at the DDEAF site for training tips. It is specifically for deaf dogs (including re-homing deaf dogs). Look here: Deaf Dogs
