Guest Tess32
Nice link. It says on there that you shouldn't do herding unless you can devote yourself to weekly lessons?!?! Nat
hopenfox
Just thought...another option is to all meet at Daylesford ??? kinda halfway. Pippi, that sounds much more possible! And so great if I can follow someone. I'm terrible with directions and maps. Blindfold me and drop me a couple of blocks from where I live and no one would ever see me again! But I've been through Daylesford on the way to trials, so I know how to get there. How exciting! Here's Fox at his first (and only) workshop;

sheepdog
It says on there that you shouldn't do herding unless you can devote yourself to weekly lessons?!?! ...that's probably because you get so addicted to it You will get a lot more out of your dog quicker if you did do weekly lessons and training sessions, however you don't have to. Remember to concerntrate on building innstinct and confidence (handler confidence as well) first by exposing to sheep then start control later. Don't try and rush your dog to the next stage too quick. Keep the building blocks as small as possible. zTHis is important for the dogs welfare and the handlers Dry training without sheep can help. Train a reliable distance sit, drop, stop, recall (not formal) and behind and your half way there. There are also lots of other exersises one can do but they'll come later. My advice is to try and expose the dog to sheep under supervision as often as you want until your confident enough to keep going at the starting level by yourself then get more lessons when you think your ready for the next stage. Moore Than Just Dog Training
So is:"moore than just dog training" "herding_ guy" and "sheepdog" all one and the same? No, I'm a new comer to dogzonline. I've enjoyed the posts especially the ones with pics. Certainly shows that a picture says a thousand words. It's good to see working breeds doing what the were bred to do. Having FUN! Wayne

I was the one with the smokey coloured Kelpie and the baby Westie. Glad to see you have joined us here, and thanks for all your help on Saturday.
