Having just spent what seems like a zillion bucks at the local pet supply shop, I'm curious about what other people buy there. We went to buy dog food. ;) Came home with a bed, lead, new bowl and treats. So, do other people go just to get their petfood, or do all their doggy shopping at once? I'm over that phase now after she destroyed so many. I have a drawer ina cupbaord of destroyed soft toys waiting to be repaired. She also get quite possessive about them and growls at her brother. Christina77 Posted September 25, 2005 Share Posted September 25, 2005 Not being near a pet store I purchase all my goodies online , next to get Heartguard plus antibacterial spray or cream Collar for dog multivitamins for the cat ear cleaner for dog and if anyone reads this : I need something to help my cats appetite , he's getting older (14) and seems to have days where he doesn't eat much and he tends to loose body weight quickly , is there something I can replace proteins etc with ? KitKat Posted September 25, 2005 Share Posted September 25, 2005 Christina77 not sure if you are interested but Royal Canin does three foods that might be of interest...one is Exigent for very fussy cats...it's made to tempt even the fussiest of eaters..lol. Another is Mature 28 which is made for cats over 10 yrs of age and Senior 26 which are made for cats over 15 yrs of age...both have a kibble with a softer texture and have been made to taste a little more tempting then say kibble for a normal adult cat. The dog stuff takes up quite a bit of space on the list! Usually I get them biscuits, marrowbone biscuits, basted treats, bones, raw mince, a couple of dog tins, tuna and sardines. I think that's all We already have 2 beds each, a couple of leads and a couple of collars as well as an array of brushes. I want to get them another water bowl to keep inside so on hot days their inside water will hopefully stay cool. I get the meds (eg heartworm, etc) online as it is cheaper. Fitz and Amie Posted September 25, 2005 Share Posted September 25, 2005 We don't really have a list of things to get, usually when we do go to get food, we come home with some treats, and a few new toys (like they don't already have a million, lol). Sometimes if we see stuff on sale, we buy it, even if we don't really need it (for example, we have 5 dog beds, and 2 dogs ). We like buying pet stuff, we spoil our furkids terribly, but as a result, they don't usually touch our stuff, they have enough toys, and chews to keep them occupied, and stimulated. I guess the next essential thing that we need to buy is advocate for the cat, he has a 2 month supply left, and I don't like to let it get too low, I hate forgetting it, and realising that we have to delay treatment for a day or two, till we can get some more. We like to go on doggie (and kitten) shopping sprees, and getting a lot of stuff at once, when Fitz came home, we brought heaps of stuff at once, it was like christmas, lol. Same for Chade (our cat), we did not need much when Kettle came home, but we did get her a coller, specialised puppy food, and a toy of her own. My next purchase will be 2 chairs for sitting on when i start showing and i have half paid for a 6 berth doggy trailer. zero Posted September 26, 2005 Share Posted September 26, 2005 We definately did a big shop for each of our dogs before they arrived & it was so hard to not buy the whole pet shop out! I actually go to our closest Pet Network Warehouse for a big shop because I can get online prices but actually see & touch before I buy. I bought inside & outside beds, collars, leads, bowls, soft toys/squeaky toys (not anymore!), rope toys, kong, balls, frisbee, treat ball....& probably a few Iv'e forgotten. When I go to the local petshop or supermarket I usually but teats for training, biscuits for snacks/training, pigs ears, raw hide bones & anything that looks healthy & entertaining. I have an area in the pantry dedicated to the dogs & I always keep it stocked for those days when I might need an extra chew to keep them amused. My two are strong chewers so I've given up on most toys, they have squeaky toys for dog school training but otherwise they only have ropes, kong type toys & thick rawhide chews....& a nylabone type chew. When my girl was a puppy I bought her the most gorgeous soft squeaky toys but I don't get around to patching them anymore & they only last 5 seconds before the stuffing is all over the place anyway!!! My girls have one each of everything, so double what I've listed here: inside fluffy cushion that everyone comments on, weather proof kennel with flat roof and little sliding window for ventilation (BF calls them palaces not kennels), many toys both inside and out, two leads each - 1 short and 1 long for the beach, brushes, and a pantry full of dog treats. Not to mention both have a harness that doubles as a car seat belt and a dog cover for the back seat of the car. I see something that I think I MIGHT need one day and so it gets bought! Nutrigel is an appetite stimulant and is also practically a complete food on it's own so they get lots of good stuff out if it if they are the type that doesn't eat much. I often buy online (like worming or fleas stuff) or at the shows for show gear. Today I just bought two dog leads and matching collars online. For most treats I get fresh meaty bones from our butcher or make them myself. The only treats I buy at pet suppliers are pigs ears. However recently after surfing the net for a reasonably priced xtra xtra large raised dog bed I am resorting to buying one from a local pet supplier as it is surprisingly cheaper and we did recently buy an 18 kg bag of dried food as it was $30 off the usual price. n_topaz Posted September 28, 2005 Share Posted September 28, 2005 Wow, I thought I was the worst shopaholic for my pup. I had her collar, lead, 2 beds, toys and bowls weeks before I picked her up. Last shop I did, I went to local large chain dollar store nearby to quickly pick up a new chew toy while ouyt getting dinner. Walked out having spent $40. LOL But wasn't too worried when I saw one toy I'd got (for $3), in a pet store few days later for $26. Made me feel much better !
