To My dear Ophie

Well, it was time to give you the wings so you could cross into doggie heaven.

God knows you deserve it, you very special girl.

Your time on earth didn’t start out all that good, did it? Your owner had you tied up in a barn………….starved and beaten and luckly the inspector from RSPCA found you.

They nursed you back to life from 25 kilos of bone to a beautiful 56 kilo Blue Merle Great Dane. You had such a good body…………..all muscles and you could run like the wind.

It took a good 6 months before you could relax around us……….the garden hose never where your favourite……God know what they did to you with that one.

And you loved to be patted and given all the attention under the sun.

You learned to tolerate our two little Chihuahua’s and when they got their wings you thought……Oh, you beauty.I have them alllll to myself. It didn’t last long, did it?

We had to get two new ones of the little buggers. You never even try to harm them and just turned your other cheek to Tazzie when he was chewing on your back leg.

You weren’t too convinced when we brought Charlie home.

What the? It’s a mini Dane……….what I’m I supposed to do with him????

As he grew and finally turned out a head higher then you…….you looooooved the spunky hunky Charlie.

You played, ate and snoozed together. It was nice with the company too when you had to stay at the vet when the two legged ones went away for the weekend.

About eight month ago something was wrong with you. Half your face collapsed and you more than likely had a brain tumour. The news was no good. We would either find you passed away or your behaviour would change. And so it did. You attacked Charlie for no reason on two occasions and we couldn’t risk a third. After talking to two vets we decide to give you your wings. We could not have a ticking bomb around……….you could harm humans. It was only matter of time. So, we have set you free for only to come back in our memories for ever and ever. We are the lucky ones who got to know and love you, Ophie.

No more grey face looking at me thru the windows waiting for her breakfast…….no more grey face jumping on the gate when we come home………..no more grey face snoring in front of the telly every night….

Just a very confused Charlie looking at me with his eyes full of questions…..

Where is she…..my best mate…..when will she come back and play with me??

RIP dear Ophie, you’re my special girl

Ophie passed away at noon Saturday 16 July 2005

She was seven years old and we had her for four years.

You had no choice really about the sad decision you had to make.

If she could, she would thank you for the kind and wonderful years she had with you.

Sympathy to you in your loss.....Fido. :kissbetter:

:kissbetter: tears for your family's loss, you did the right thing, nothing would have been worse than a tradgety that resulted in Ophelia being put to sleep in fear and anger.

We have had a dane with a brain tumour, and I think it was a release for her when we had her PTS - no more fear, or uncontrollable body, just held in our arms while the vet softly sent her to the bridge.

You gave Ophelia her freedom at the right time. Thank you for being strong for her, hugs to you all and Charlie.
