Puppy and dog listings

I have just started my search for a pup or older dog for a pet, and started here.

I do not like the new format for dogzonline listings or the convoluted way I have to jump through hoops just to contact a breeder to even find out the cost of a dog or pup, which is very important.  I think everyone has a budget, no?

I understand the need for a breeder to want information on a prospective buyer,  but honestly I don't want to poor out my whole life story if the price is out of my reach. It's just gone stupid

No wonder other online markets are popular

You will be buying a sentient being not a handbag. You are applying to be considered for an adoption.

Dedicated breeders have put time and effort into the process and you should respect that.

The application form etc is to hopefully weed out impulse buyers who have seen a dog in a movie and want one NOW because it is "so cute" and obviously born well-trained and impeccably groomed.

I was a breeder of pedigree dogs for over 15 years and I am aware of the time and effort that goes into breeding a quality dog whose lines I was very proud of.

I was also quite comfortable with advertising my price, i think it's important to be up front so that people who can not afford this price range do not have to waste their time or mine with an application that is a dead end.

I was also happy to put my phone number on the ad, I am of the generation who liked to speak to people rather than read an often well rehearsed email.

This site now has breeders that want one to complete a puppy application for a pup that may not be the price, sex, size or colour I want.

And if I am looking at a companion for the next 15 years, and am paying well for that companion, then I believe I also have the right to information before I started telling you whether I own, rent, work, my vets details and all of the other information I would otherwise be happy to disclose AFTER I know what's on offer. By phone that is.

nothing has really changed re the ads. Most don't list prices and haven't for years. Many have had puppy forms for years. I always wanted email first. I didn't need chapter and verse. But I worked nightshift so I didn't want phones calls first up. My sleep was very important to me.

I get the price thing and agree with you in that aspect.

We always told price first as it was no fun for us to talk to someone on the phone for 30 plus minutes & then hear So sorry thats out of our price range .

I will say though we didnt put the price in the ad nor every life detail .
Our ads we simple if needed to be posted .
Puppies available ,health tested, available from  Please phone xyz to discuss further because we would never sell a pup based on the info in a post.

The one then we clearly made important in our ads was the people should clearly have researched this breed & understand it needs professional grooming every 6/8 weeks & weekly brushing so this breed has life long expenses & owner commitment as that was more important to us than price .
In 40 plus years we never did application forms & the questions most ask are nothing more than what you get talking .
Talking to a human weeded out very easily the good, bad & not this breed people .

Fully support you, you are not buying a toaster or any other thing, you are buying a live puppy, so I don't understand the discontent in this thread
