HE"S SAFE :)

A beloved blind dog allegedly stolen from a Gold Coast family on Wednesday has been found safe and well about 300 kilometres from his home after desperate interstate search.

Key points:

  • Police say a man is expected to be charged over the alleged break-in
  • Bowie has full cataracts, requires daily care and can become disorientated easily
  • His owner says he is grateful for the "amazing" community support

Bowie, a four-year-old Australian shepherd, was reported missing on Wednesday after his owner Luke Durman and 10-year-old son Leo returned to their Southport home and found it had been ransacked.

Their car was also missing.

Bowie was found safe and well near Nambucca Heads, New South Wales, after the car was intercepted by NSW Police.

Queensland Police said a 48-year-old Southport man has been arrested and is expected to be charged with property offences.

Mr Durman said the family was relieved.

"It wasn't until I saw Leo that I got a little bit emotional," he said.

"We had a cuddle and cry and we're on our way now to get him."
