ABSOLUTELY GUTTED

Recommended Posts

Even heavy duty drugs wouldn't be enough to help a person cope with that scenario! She is actually a bit better now but I do have a funny story for you. Recently she and her son decided to do a flight over the Antartic. I think it was like 9 hours. We tried to talk her out of it, for the sake of all the other poor people on the plane. Of course it went tits up before they even made it to the airport so she didn't have one good thing to say about the entire experience. I wonder how many other passengers demanded their money back for that 'special' in-flight experience?

She complained about at least one other passenger, who got moved to save their own sanity. The photos were beautiful but she complained about everything from the food to the size of the seats (she should have bought 2 seats of course but ignored our advice) and how far she had to walk to get to the toilet to how far away they kept the planes (she was being pushed in a wheelchair). She made a scene at departure that had airport security and guest services running. That stewardess alarm would've been constantly on! And this is the new and improved version of her!

More on the same vein: Some years ago I made the mistake of sharing with my mother how much boarding my dog while I was overseas was going to cost. The next day she rang to say that she had been ‘chatting with a lady in the supermarket’ and they had got rid of their dog before they went on holiday and got a new one when they got back and why didn’t I do that and save all the money? I told her that would be despicable and morally bankrupt, and what did ‘get rid of’ mean anyway, put to sleep? Well she’s an old dog so why not was the response.

Forward 15 years and my mother was in a nursing home, but I get a text out of the blue from my sister saying ‘what a shame’ it was I had the ‘burden’ of the dogs as this was the time of life I am supposed to be travelling and if I didn’t have them I could do what I was supposed to do as a retired person. I told her I didn’t live my life according to other people’s schedules, I’d travelled so much in my working life it was the last thing I wanted to do, and the dogs were the greatest source of joy in my life.  Turns out she wanted to go cruising and expected me to enable that by going with her but the dogs were a problem and I shouldn’t  have them. I told her I would get rid of her out of my life if needed but the dogs weren’t going anywhere. Not sure how we are even related.

Diva I thought you were going to say you asked your mother would she mind being put down, she was old and it would save all that money for the nursing home! Hope you aren't offended by me saying this!

LOL no not offended. I am still a bit gobsmacked by those 2 conversations- apart from anything else, how disrespectful is it to tell someone else how to live. And to ‘get rid of’  their pets for convenience sake.  Still shaking my head.

Well the bookings have been made and Bunches and Beatrice will have their operations on Tuesday 18 April.

I will not be having the prosthetic inserted for Bunches; I don't want her to be put through more than necessary.  So that should be pretty straight forward.

Beatrice's op will be a little more intensive because, as well as having the scar tissue frozen, she will have a slow release implant inserted in her eyes.  Specialist says we have to "hit her hard" with medications to stave off deterioration as much as possible.  He says there is the likelihood she will go blind over time.

So a scary time coming up for me; the dogs will probably sail through with not a care in the world.  They sleep through it all and wake up feeling better.  I will probably be scoffing Strawby's anxiety medications.

Very best wishes for both your girls (and you).   You might be encouraged to know that my friend's elderly Brittny, not only survived the eye removal really well, and hasn't ever seemed bothered by it, but is still enjoying a great life.  His 17th birthday party was last weekend.

The Dirt Girls go in for their surgery tomorrow and I confess to being very nervous for them.  I know the surgeons are very very experienced, but the last time I took a little dog in for eye surgery (different specialist) it did not end well

Huge Hugs to you.
