Sydneydog
Hi. My dog was recently diagnosed with ITP, she’s on the mend now and due to be coming home soon. I was interested to know others experience of recovery and what modifications were needed a result of steroid medications.
Rebanne
I can't help with the actual disease but one of my dogs was on massive doses of steroids last year. 60mg per day to start with. Opal was around 30 kilos at the time. It took around 2 months to get the dose down to nil. We did also use Nexium? to help protect her gut from such high doses but she reacted badly to it so it was just the cortisone, which Opal was weaned off slowly. No other drugs etc were used. Not sure what you mean by modifications.
Dogsfevr
It will be hard to answer your question because each dogs road to recovery can be so varied & whether additional drugs are required to assist & in the early stages its all about getting on the road to recovery & lowering the dose. Your vet is the person you need to ask as they are treating your dog & at what stage . The main obvious issue is the potential side effects of prednil which your vet will cover anyway
